Be You Candles, a lovely local shop owned and operated by creative candle-maker Shemeka Wright, offers a bevy of scents designed to delight and rejuvenate your senses—and your home.
“Our incredible fragrant collections offer the perfect way to bring a soft and soothing feel to any room,” notes Shemeka.
A candle enthusiast for as long as she can remember, Shemeka made her passion official when she decided to try her hand at making her own fragrant wax creations.
What began as making candles for herself, followed by family and friends, grew into something greater. Soon, Shemeka’s kitchen turned into a candle laboratory, the place where she mixed, tested, and experimented with different colors, wicks, jars, and fragrances.
Her goal was to create a product that truly reflected her own unique, vibrant personality.
Eventually, her signature recipe was perfected, and she was hooked—Be You Candles was launched in September 2020.
Three years later, business is booming, and Be You Candles has expanded to become BYC Home Décor, inspired by Shemeka’s stellar interior design style.
The company’s name change, effective May 2023, accompanies the launch of home accent pieces, pillows, and wall art.
“Our goal is to be the brand our customers think of when they are looking to elevate their space,” says Shemeka.
Through her candle creations and home décor, Shemeka hopes to help her customers create a serene, relaxing home environment.
“We believe that when your space is infused with beautiful scents and décor representing your individual style, you are sure to feel energized and rejuvenated.”
Shemeka’s line of candles has a distinctively sophisticated look. The luxury candles are made in a black matte glass vessel with a wooden lid and 3D labeling.
“We use premium coconut apricot wax that’s natural, non-toxic, and vegan,” says Shemeka. “Each candle includes a unique, tubed wooden wick that crackles when it burns.”
When burned properly, Be You Candles last up to 60 hours.
The company also offers candle essentials like electric lighters, candle stands, and flameless options including wax melts and air fresheners.
