A gorgeous, tousled beach wave is a fun style for a date night or an evening out with the girls, no matter the season. The good news is that you can achieve a fresh-from-the-shore look in under 10 minutes. “This salty, sun-kissed style complements everyone,” says Cristina Antonelli, owner of Color Me Chic salon in Bound Brook. She shows you how to create these beachy locks:
Comb out tangles and spray your dry hair with a heat protectant spray. (Antonelli uses SEVEN Rinzu Heat Defense Spray.) If your hair needs help holding its curls, try SEVEN Cubica Wave Curl Cream.
Section your hair along your part. Then, using a clip or hair tie, pull out a desired section of hair to style.
Clip a curling iron a little above your scalp and run it the entire length of the section to prepare it for the curl. (The curling iron’s barrel size depends on how loose or tight you wish your curl to be and the length of your hair. The bigger the barrel, the looser the curl. “My hair hangs about three inches below my shoulder, and I use a 1 ½ inch barrel,” Antonelli says.)
Bring the curling iron back toward the top of your hair and clamp it again near the roots. Draw the curling iron down toward the end, alternating from curling your hair away from your face in sections and straightening it in sections. Your goal is for each strand to have a bit of straightness and curl in it. Stop about an inch from the bottom if you desire an untouched look.
Once you have completed a strand, lightly brush or run your fingers through it to break up the curl before it cools and sets.
Repeat with other sections in the hair.
If desired, set the style and tame flyaways with a flexible hold hair spray.
