For the past nine years, Emile Cassedy has been creating her dream home. As a former photographer, her eye for detail goes past the camera lens. Every nook in her home has a memory attached to it, and she enjoys highlighting pieces that carry a special meaning.
“Our homes are an expression of who we are,” Cassedy said.
The home’s beautiful interior welcomes loved ones into a space that looks fresh out of a magazine, but is home to a family that has left an imprint on every square inch. The family’s passions are evident in the house, with bookshelves scattered throughout and music playing in every room.
“I feel like it’s modern traditionalism with some fun,” Cassedy laughed. “I wanted it to be pretty, but I wanted it to feel like home.”
Cassedy explains that her theme has not always stayed the same and that as time goes on she finds ways to add to the space in a way that adapts with her family.
“The biggest thing is, don’t be afraid to try new things,” Cassedy said.
The Living Room: The contrast of black and white to the olive-green accessories showcase her favorite color and make the details of her living room stand out, juxtaposed by the corner of toys that have been well-loved by her two boys.
Frames scatter the walls with photographs and a blessing from her mother, given to her and her husband, Andy, when they moved into their first home and have traveled with them into every new house.
The room is evidently loved by the family, with cozy blankets and a large couch that is home to movie nights and fort building.
The Dining Room: From the dining table made by a friend to the dried flowers from a wedding she photographed, the Cassedy’s dining room is a space full of pieces from friends and family. She connects to loved ones by preserving items and memories that create a gathering space.
Her husband comes from a long line of carpenters, and she preserves those memories and tradition with one of her favorite pieces, a vintage saw that lies on the cabinets.
The Kitchen: The kitchen is a space that truly shows off her family. Pictures of her sons hang on the fridge, and crystal pieces from her grandmother are lit up in the cabinets. Families often have the best conversations with food, and this family is no exception.
Cassedy talks about her love for cooking, and it shows through the variety of cookbooks that decorate the countertops. As she climbs onto the island for a photograph, she laughs about how it is the same spot her kids sit to put their shoes on in the morning.
The Kids’ Rooms: When designing her sons’ rooms, Cassedy wanted them to have a theme, and as the boys have gotten older, she has incorporated their personalities into each room.
Jack (2) and Noah (5) have their own personal touches on their rooms, but their brotherly connection keeps them tied together through the family’s love of Disney. Each has a collection of pins from Disney that are memories of the times spent together.
Noah’s love for Star Wars and Legos is clear with his collections and memorabilia. But the small skeleton Halloween decoration is his most prized possession.
“He’s even asked if he can sleep with it,” laughed Cassedy.
Jack’s room has a Colorado theme with adventure posters and maps. His adventurous personality fits in with the space, and Cassedy hopes his love for adventure grows with his age.
The Master Bedroom: The master bedroom is simple but filled with the couple’s memories of loved ones and cherished photographs. Cassedy has decorated the space with pictures that previously resided in her grandmother’s parlor and vintage prints given by a friend.
The space has an artistic edge and the personal touches that make the room feel comfortable and relaxing.
With a little bit of time and a lot of intention, the Cassedy home has become one of their dreams. Encapsulating the expression of who they are, the things they love, and the memories they treasure.
