The Boerne Blaze is the Special Olympics team for special needs students and adults in the Boerne area. Boerne Blaze athletes compete year round in all types of sports including swimming, bowling, cycling and basketball! The program is completely run by volunteers who have a heart for these super star athletes. The Boerne Blaze has several small fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for specific needs. The largest event which raises nearly the entire budget for the year is the Annual Fashion Show. Boerne Blaze athletes select an outfit to borrow from a local retailer and strut their stuff down the runway.
The 4th Annual Boerne Blaze Fashion Show benefiting Boerne Special Olympics was to take place in late March and was unfortunately postponed indefinitely. We are unable to safely gather our special needs athletes until given permission by the Special Olympics of Texas. This event not only gives our athletes the chance to own the runway, but to see how very loved they are by our community. The community support for this event is so strong that tickets completely sold out the past two years.
This year’s event was entirely planned and ready to take place before being abruptly put to a halt due to Covid. Every sponsor, table host and individual was given the opportunity to receive a refund as it was unknown if we would have the chance to reschedule. Not a single person requested a refund.
While the event makes a great deal of profit on the day of through personal donations and the silent auction, we are still so blessed to feel such support for these kids. In these next pages we feature some of our popular runway models.
