Part of Boerne Performing Arts’ mission statement states “educating through student outreach programs”. Each artist who performs an evening concert in Champion Auditorium commits to presenting a fifty-minute outreach program for students in BISD at absolutely no cost to the student. For many students, this is the first time they have attended a live performance of any kind. The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th grade students are the main attendees as these are the years that they are participating or thinking about participating in choral and instrumental programs at school. Lesson plans about the type of performance the students are about to attend are presented prior and after the concert in their classrooms. These outreach concerts are so very different from the evening performances. First of all, the energy and excitement of elementary students is much higher than an adult audience. Secondly, the artists go to great lengths to engage and include the students in the entire experience.
