Breaking Bread with House of Carbs

Heather Frantz serves sourdough, sweet treats, and comfort baking in Southlake

From finance to fresh-baked sourdough, Heather Frantz has turned a personal passion into one of Southlake’s most delicious success stories. Through her growing business, House of Carbs, Heather is redefining the way people think about bread, one handcrafted loaf at a time.

What began as a simple hobby in her home kitchen quickly became something much bigger. “I began baking sourdough as a way to slow down and reconnect with food in a more intentional way,” Heather shares. “What started as a curiosity quickly turned into a daily ritual that felt grounding, creative, and honestly a little therapeutic.”

As friends and neighbors started tasting her creations, word spread fast. “People weren’t just enjoying the bread, they were connecting with it,” she says. “That’s when I realized this could become something more.”

Today, House of Carbs is known for its fresh daily bakes made with organic, thoughtfully sourced ingredients and no preservatives. Heather’s intentional approach to baking is part of what keeps customers coming back for more.

“The classic sourdough loaf will always be my favorite because it really showcases the slow fermentation process and quality ingredients,” Heather says. “But our sourdough pop tarts have definitely developed a cult following. They’re nostalgic, fun, and completely reimagined with a sourdough twist.”

Heather’s background in finance and corporate America may seem worlds away from artisan baking, but she credits that experience for helping her build the business. “Sourdough came into my life at the perfect time,” she explains. “House of Carbs is where both sides of me meet, the analytical and the creative.”

Family also plays a huge role in the brand. Heather, her husband Mike, 12-year-old twins Scarlett and Grayson, and even their micro mini goldendoodle Vivian all help make House of Carbs feel personal and welcoming. “My kids are my best taste testers,” Heather laughs. “And Vivian is always nearby during the early morning bakes.”

Beyond bread, House of Carbs now offers private sourdough classes, local pop-ups, and customized gifting through Basket Case, a curated gift basket extension of the brand.

“At the end of the day, House of Carbs is about quality, intention, and connection,” Heather says. “It’s about creating something that brings people together and makes everyday moments feel a little more special.”
