Breath of Clarity

Exploring pulmonary health with Dr. Kevin Tsui

Health concerns can often feel overwhelming and uncertain. Finding clarity, especially when it comes to something as vital as breathing, can be life changing. For Dr. Kevin Tsui, pulmonary specialist and founder of Henderson Pulmonology, that clarity is not just a goal, it’s a responsibility.

“My job is to help people understand what’s happening in their body,” Dr. Tsui says. “When patients walk in, they’re often anxious, confused, or unsure. My goal is to give them clarity, a plan, and peace of mind.”

He adds, “Breathing is something we take for granted, until we can’t. That’s when everything changes.”

Dr. Tsui’s path to Las Vegas was not something he originally planned. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he attended medical school in California and initially envisioned a different trajectory. But in 2008, what he calls “the best mistake that ever happened” brought him to Las Vegas, a move that would ultimately shape his career and purpose.

“I was only supposed to be here for a year,” Dr. Tsui recalls. “But opportunities kept presenting themselves, and I couldn’t say no.”

From internal medicine residency to becoming chief resident and later helping establish Nevada’s first pulmonary and critical care fellowship, Dr. Tsui’s journey has been one of growth, mentorship, and dedication. Over the years, he also became ICU Medical Director at Spring Valley Hospital, building more than a decade of experience caring for critically ill patients.

Despite his success in hospital systems, Dr. Tsui felt something was missing. In 2024, he made the decision to step away from a traditional group practice and open his own clinic, Henderson Pulmonology.

“I never thought I wanted to be a business owner,” Dr. Tsui admits. “But I saw how patients were being treated, and I knew that wasn’t how I wanted to practice medicine.”

That realization became the foundation of his clinic: a space where patients are not rushed, where listening comes first, and where care is deeply personal.

Unlike many practices that move quickly through appointments, Dr. Tsui intentionally schedules longer visits. “Time is the most important thing,” he says. “You can’t practice good, safe medicine if you’re rushing through patients. People deserve to feel heard.”

Pulmonary conditions, from asthma and COPD to unexplained shortness of breath, are often complex and deeply personal. Symptoms can be subtle, chronic, or easily dismissed. Dr. Tsui encourages patients to explore those symptoms rather than ignore them.

“Don’t just chalk it up to age or assume that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” he explains. “If something feels off, it’s worth exploring. There are things we can do to help.”

For him, the process begins with listening. “Most diagnoses come from the history, just listening to the patient and understanding their symptoms,” he says. “If you don’t take the time to listen, you miss the story.”

That philosophy shapes every interaction in his clinic. Patients aren’t just seen, they’re heard. Conversations are unhurried, collaborative, and rooted in trust. “It’s almost like two friends just sitting and talking,” he says. “Our goal is clarity, vision, and a plan.”

While his approach is grounded in human connection, Dr. Tsui is equally committed to staying at the forefront of medical advancements. Pulmonary medicine continues to evolve rapidly, particularly in areas like biologics, immunotherapy, and treatments for chronic conditions and lung cancer.

“We’re seeing new pathways and treatments that give us more options than ever before,” Dr. Tsui says. “It’s exciting, and it gives patients hope. Medicine is always evolving, and we have to evolve with it.” Still, he emphasizes that technology alone isn’t enough. The real difference lies in how care is delivered and how patients feel throughout the process.

Beyond practicing medicine, Dr. Tsui is a husband, father, and leader in his field, roles that require constant balance and resilience. When asked how he manages it all, his answer is simple and grounded: “You just do it,” Dr. Tsui says. “It’s what was ingrained in me growing up, take care of people and take care of your family.”

In a time when healthcare can often feel rushed and impersonal, Dr. Kevin Tsui offers something rare: time, understanding, and clarity. Through his practice, patients are given the opportunity to explore their symptoms, ask questions, and feel truly seen in their care. Because at the end of the day, breathing is something we often take for granted, until it becomes difficult. And in those moments, having someone who can guide you with both expertise and compassion makes all the difference.

For Dr. Tsui, that mission is clear: helping every patient not just breathe, but breathe with confidence, understanding, and peace of mind.
