Brentwood Interiors Closing Their Doors After Serving the Community for 68 Years

The original Salvage Store, a downtown Nashville dry goods business, began in 1952. It occupied a building on 3rd Ave South where the Johnny Cash Museum is currently located.

In the beginning, merchandise included trucking and railroad salvage and any items the business could buy and sell to customers at discount prices. As fabrics soon became the most popular item, salvaged goods such as clothing, shoes, paint, food, and tools, gave way to first quality upholstery and drapery fabrics from well-known manufacturers.

Within a few years the business expanded into hand knotted and machine-made rugs. Trips to Atlanta and NY to purchase rugs were added to the usual High Point, NC trips to fabric shows. Despite its growth, the business was still able to maintain discount pricing for the high quality items customers had come to expect through the years. Another hallmark of the business has always been a knowledgeable and friendly staff.

In August of 1997, when the Salvage Store moved to Brentwood, at 144 Wilson Pike Circle, the name changed to Brentwood Interiors, but shoppers were pleased to find that little more than the name and physical address were different.

The now 68-year-old, third generation family business added furniture, lighting, and art to its new larger showroom, but fabrics and rugs have always been the backbone of the company. As a mainstay of the decorating world in middle TN, southern KY, and northern AL, professional designers, workrooms, and do-it yourselfers alike have counted on Brentwood Interiors to supply the items needed to make a house a personalized home.

When the company ceases operations later this year, it will be a bittersweet time for loyal employees, customers, and the family that credits God's blessings for the success achieved for so many years.

All rugs, both hand knotted and machine made, are currently discounted off their normally low prices. Many decorative fabrics, as well as lighting, furniture, and art are included in this sale. Brentwood Interiors, at 144 Wilson Pike Circle, is open 9 to 5, Monday through Saturday.
