When these homeowners decided to build their new home, they knew they wanted it to be inviting, unique and coastal.
“We went to the seaside a few years back and fell in love with the coastal styles of the houses there,” the homeowner says. “We love the standing seam, stained but not painted cedar shingles, the exposed rafter tails, natural stone and of course the standing seam roof details. We also re-used the parts of our last Old Leawood house we loved. We just modernized and expanded on them, like the outdoor seating, outdoor kitchen and lots of natural light and windows. We also added lots of doors to open the house up for parties on nice KC nights.”
Some of their favorite features of this home include all of the walnut accents and details. This includes the front doors, fireplace, powder vanity, wet bar cabinets and backs of the basement bars.
The LED lighting throughout is also amazing, not only in the wine room, but the basement bar, master bath cabinets and glass kitchen cabinets.
“We also love the expansive mud room and paneled entry and office. This home is a great blend of traditional exterior and transitional interiors,” they say.
The exterior elements blend well together. The stone, brick porches, grey stained cedar shake siding and the standing seam metal roof portions make for a great combination. And the pool lends to the surfside feel.

When asked their favorite room in the home, the homeowners emphasized that it is definitely their kitchen, saying, “The giant island is the heart of the house where all the great family interaction, conversations and meals happen. The second one is the outdoor space with fireplace. Sometimes it is just nice to be outside, throw on the heaters and start a fire.”
With ocean waves resounding in their minds, no doubt.
