Bringing the Outdoors, Indoors

How Youngren Construction built the modern hilltop home.

Since eighth grade, Scott Youngren knew that he wanted to pursue construction. It was his passion; fit the lifestyle he wanted to create for himself. He recalls earning his contractor's license at an early age, and now, 33 years later, he cannot envision himself doing anything else. He was his own boss.

Youngren Construction, his family owned and operated company, was founded in 1992. They offer services that range from construction or renovation of residential and business spaces. It reflects the passion he holds for his work, and a new custom home has been added to their impressive portfolio.

The Hunter residence was designed by an outside architect. Youngren Construction stepped in as general contractor. The property owners are passionate about the outdoors, known to have an affinity for growing their own coffee plants, and gardening. That love was reflected in the house’s design. The living room features massive sliding doors, offering clear views of the surrounding land and immediate access to the patio and deck. It has a simple yet modern style, allowing those inside to always feel like they are one with nature and the beautiful surroundings.

Youngren confirmed that the property owner built the cabinets on his own. He used an exotic hardwood distinct to avocado trees, called avocado wood. Other impressive features of the property include its full solar ray with battery backup systems, pocket door sliders, and a highly efficient fireplace that’s capable of warming the entire house. A 7,000-square-foot detached shop sits beside the home, furnished with air conditioning and a heater. This ensures that the client can face the enduring weather and still work inside for hours at time. Youngren also mentioned the impressive amount of steel beams and posts incorporated into the structure, which add both strength and visual appeal to the design.

The main challenge Youngren’s team overcame in building the house was meeting the code regulations and still maintaining the desired look. They selected alternate products made of cedar wood and devoted a great deal of attention toward the property’s fluctuating levels. The decks and external staircases meant elevation changes were present throughout the house, which demanded engineering. Measurements had to be precise, and everything needed to line up precisely. It was a labor of love, for all of those involved, ensuring each detail met the highest standards.

Considering their extensive history, and refinement of their craft, Youngren Construction has seen many ways of building certain products. They have done it all, constructing living rooms, kitchens, homes, and bathrooms. But in his eyes, it comes down to listening to the customer. What do they want, what are their needs and expectations, and where their budget can take them. He believes that through incorporating the important details that his team has learned over the years, and collaborating with the client, will result in functional and incredible designs.

Through their commitment to quality and service, Youngren Construction has become a trusted partner in the community. With a focus on elevating every project to the highest standard, they are known for delivering results that not only meet but exceed expectations. Whether working on a custom home or a business renovation, their attention to detail and dedication to craftsmanship are what set them apart.
