BuckHaven's Founding Families

Meet Holden and Elsie Thompson

In the 1920’s, when Holden Thompson’s father bought 13 acres on an unpaved Peachtree Road where it met Club Drive to build a family compound, the family was planting a long-lasting love for their land, now Historic Brookhaven. The hallowed property became home to Grandfather Thompson and his three sons (including Holden) along with a tennis court and parklike grounds where a pet donkey held court. The property then was actually split between Fulton County, City of Atlanta (Buckhead) and Dekalb county. In 1968, the family sold the property and moved a few blocks away to East Brookhaven where a family home was built and where, in1969 Holden and his bride Elsie built their house and raised their family.

Elsie and their daughter, Laura Thompson are partners in the successful residential real estate group, The Thompson Team, along with Rachel Grindrod. Elsie and Holden both have taken leadership roles in the community they love. Elsie founded the Brookhaven Neighborhood Association, now the Historic Brookhaven Neighborhood Association.  It is arguably one of the strongest neighborhood associations of its kind in the South. She was active in the Junior League of Atlanta and has sponsored and hosted fund-raising events for the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Together, they have been active with the Children’s Tumor Foundation, in honor of the daughter they lost to Neuro Fibromotosis in 2014 and are long-time members of the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where they worship and have taught and coached.

Holden was active in the Atlanta Rotary Club and remembers a Peachtree Road where the trolley would run and bikes and cars would share the road with cars pulling up to the curb to park.

Together, they have raised a family and remained dedicated to the community. Elsie has worked in real estate since 1986 with more than 1000 transactions with an unrivaled memory for the nuances of each and every negotiation.  She loves to play tennis, spend time with her family, go on walks with her dog Scout and meet with friends.
