At Artemis Select in Oceanport, the focus isn’t just on fitness—it’s on function, longevity, and empowerment. Founded by Rolland Cheng, NASM Master Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), the studio combines individualized programming with a community-driven approach that welcomes everyone from elite athletes to first-time exercisers.
Rolland brings two decades of experience to his work, including service as a Master Fitness Trainer for the U.S. Army, where he helps soldiers maintain peak physical readiness and prevent injury. His expertise bridges the gap between rehabilitation and performance, working closely with local physical therapists to ensure clients transition safely from recovery to active training.
“What we do is really about helping people move better and live better,” Rolland says. “We look at where each person is starting, identify any imbalances or weaknesses, and design programs that are specific to their needs and goals.”
At Artemis Select, every member receives a personalized training plan—far from the cookie-cutter model of large gyms. Sessions are small, allowing trainers to correct form, adapt movements, and keep workouts safe and effective. The studio also utilizes InBody scanning technology, giving clients measurable insight into their progress and helping them break through plateaus with science-backed adjustments.
Rolland’s client base is diverse—ranging from marathoners and newlyweds getting ready for their big day to seniors in their 70s, 80s, and even 90s aiming to preserve strength and independence. “For many of my older clients, it’s about maintaining bone density, balance, and the ability to keep doing the things they love—whether that’s golf, skiing, or playing with grandkids,” he says.
He’s also passionate about women’s health, noting that exercise programs should reflect the unique physiological and hormonal factors that affect women at different stages of life. “There’s not enough tailored information out there for women,” Rolland says. “Sometimes it’s as simple as programming around the menstrual cycle or understanding how conditions like PCOS affect energy and recovery.”
Beyond Oceanport, Rolland continues to work with service members across the country and serves as a guest speaker at the U.S. Army’s Master Fitness Trainer Course at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, educating the next generation of military fitness leaders on corrective exercise and performance science.
Looking ahead, Rolland hopes Artemis Select will continue to grow as a hub for intelligent, sustainable training in Monmouth County. “Our goal is to make high-level training accessible,” he says. “We want to see a strong, healthy community—people who move better, feel better, and stay active for life.”
