Come discover the spirit of adventure at Camp Seton.
Camping and outdoor exploration have been at the heart of the Greenwich Council Scouting experience for more than a century. Since 1912 with noted author, naturalist and Boy Scouts of America founder Ernest Thompson Seton as the first Council President, generations of young adventurers have found inspiration and excitement in the great outdoor, where imagination thrives and lifelong memories are made. Set on over 240 scenic acres, Camp Seton has stood as the ultimate destination for summer adventure, inviting youth of all backgrounds to unplug, explore, and grow. There are two incredible camps to choose from over five weeks, depending on your grade and regardless of prior Scouting experience, when considering Camp Seton this summer (or next), including Cub Scout Camp and Scout Adventure Camp. While sessions may be in full swing right now, there are still opportunities to step outside and into an adventure with camper spots available for Week 3: Winter Wonderland (July 21-25), Week 4: Emergency Services (July 28-August 1) and Week 5: Mythology (August 4-8). Get ready for your children to unplug from screens and reconnect with nature, imagination and each other.
Cub Scout Camp is open to boys and girls entering grade 2 through 5 and offers a week-long journey into the world of outdoor exploration, team-building and themed excitement. Each week, campers explore a wide variety of hands-on activities, including:
- Fishing
- Campfire programs
- Boating & Swimming
- Handicrafts
- Archery & BB Shooting
- Hiking & Bouldering
Campers are grouped into age-appropriate dens - Wolves (entering 2nd grade), Bears (3rd), and Webelos I & II (entering 4th and 5th) - ensuring every child feels included and challenged at the right level. While daily schedules are designed by grade, everyone comes together each Friday for a festive camp-wide celebration featuring themed activities and a closing campfire ceremony.
Scout Adventure Camp for boys and girls entering grades 6 through 8, offers the ultimate summer experience filled with action, growth and unforgettable outdoor challenges to build resilience, confidence and outdoor know-how. Campers can take part in a variety of hands-on programs designed to both thrill and teach, including:
- Archery & Rifle Ranges
- Climbing Tower, Bouldering Wall & Repelling
- Boating & Swimming
- Nature Exploration
- Scout Skills & Survival Techniques
Whether it's learning to light a fire, aim for a bullseye or navigate a trail, campers gain practical knowledge while having a blast in the outdoors.
Rates for each session are available online and parents should take note that every year, Camp Seton runs a Campership Program that provides financial aid, so that every child can take part in summer day camp regardless of their ability to pay the full camp fees.
In addition to summer camps, Camp Seton is host to numerous scouting events throughout the year, including Scouts for Camporeers, the Cuboree, the Klondike Derby, Fishing Derby, Pinewood Derby, survival skills courses and many others. Scouting has a strong presence in the Town of Greenwich through Cub Scout Packs (5-10 years old), Scout Boys and Scout Girls (11-18 years old), Venturing Crews (coed 14-18 years old) and Explorer Posts (coed 14-20 years old). Camp Seton offers campsites, lean-tos and cabins, as well as several buildings to meet in, two spectacular lakes, five miles of hiking trails, an outdoor swimming pool and 40-foot climbing tower - all amenities enjoyed by boys, girls and families of the Greenwich Council, Boy Scouts of America. As a new school year approaches, students are encouraged to learn more about the current programs and consider joining their local pack or troop.
At the elementary school level, which services Cub Scouting and is a great entry-level to the overall initiative, children and families can expect to have fun and adventure in a program that builds character and instills values with ten purposes related to the overall mission of Boy Scouts of America. There are four local packs to choose from: Pack 9 (North Street, Julian Curtis), Pack 20 (Cos Cob), Pack 23 (North Mianus, Greenwich Country Day, International School at Dundee) and Pack 35 (Glenville). Scouts BSA for boys has six troops and Scouts BSA for girls has three troops around town all available for joining starting now. The Venturing coed program was created to remind young adults to always pursue life in the spirit of adventure. Imagine zip lining, whitewater rafting, scuba diving and challenging activities for friends to have the time of their lives while learning about life, together. And finally, Explorer Posts provides a great way for young adults to get insight into careers in law enforcement, hospitals, and civil service, among others.
