Barney Flood and Pete Peterson started their Greeley insurance business in 1939 with one hundred dollars, a library table, and a borrowed typewriter. A cigar box served as their cash register.
Over 80 years later, Flood and Peterson Insurance still calls Greeley home, while its reach has expanded to clients in almost every state and several countries. “We stay fiercely independent in order to fulfill our promises to our clients and our employees,” said Brett Kemp, President of Flood and Peterson.
That promise involves listening to clients before making insurance coverage recommendations. Chief Operations Officer Whitney Shupe explained, “Our process is not cookie-cutter. We have a highly personalized approach with our clients, taking time to understand what is of value to them and how they want to protect their assets.” Agents help clients think about the assets they have but may not think to insure, like jewelry, fine art, and other collectibles. They help individuals protect not only their physical home but the items that make that house a home.
Flood and Peterson agents take that same personalized approach with their commercial and small business clients. By identifying the specific risks within each business, Flood & Peterson enables clients to be more competitive and successful. They understand that this adds value to each business, the employees, and the community.
Helping the community extends beyond offering excellent insurance coverage at Flood and Peterson. “Giving back is in our DNA,” Shupe commented. Ledgers from 1941 show revenue of $500, with a $4 contribution to the American Red Cross. The company generously gives to over 60 local organizations that are important to their employees and clients. Many of these focus on supporting women and children, such as the Boys & Girls Club, Weld Women 2 Women, and Crossroads Safehouse. Flood and Peterson also annually gives a generous gift to each Food Bank in the communities where it has office locations.
The company offers paid time off to volunteer, and in 2019, employees logged 1200 volunteer hours at their favorite non-profits. “To fit in at Flood and Peterson, you have to have a caring heart,” said Chairman and CEO Royal Lovell.
For over 80 years, Flood and Peterson has excelled at caring for their clients and the Greeley community. They help people protect the physical house they live in and the important and valuable items that truly make a house a home.
Personal and business insurance needs fluctuate, so Kemp recommends regular reviews with your agent to confirm you have just the right amount of protection.
