Local tastemaker Pia Miranda has called Fairfield home for more than a decade. With years of experience in the design industry, she has honed her expertise and cultivated a distinct, refined aesthetic across interiors, textiles and wallpaper while working with luxury brands.
Home base has given Pia the balance and inspiration she craves, the perfect juxtaposition of community and creativity. It’s allowed her to build her family, grow her career and, most recently, Fairfield has become the perfect place to carry her vision forward, launching her chic and highly coveted handbag brand, Le Sac Sulpice.
FLM: What sparked the idea for your brand? What made you feel there was room for something new?
Pia Miranda: I couldn't find a bag that truly did it all. I wanted something lightweight, durable, and versatile enough to take from the beach to lunch, to the market, to the airport. There were plenty of totes, but very few that felt elevated without sacrificing practicality. I realized there was room for a beautifully designed everyday bag that people genuinely wanted to carry everywhere.
FLM: How would you describe the brand's aesthetic? What is the ethos behind Le Sac Sulpice?
PM: Le Sac Sulpice is built around the idea that everyday essentials should be beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully made. We use recycled nylon that's handwoven by skilled artisans to create bags designed to last. Our aesthetic is effortless, timeless, and inspired by European coastal living—think classic stripes, fresh colors, and understated luxury.
FLM: What is the story behind the name?
PM: The name comes from Rue Saint-Sulpice in Paris, where I lived while studying abroad. It was one of the most inspiring chapters of my life, and years later, it still represents creativity, travel, and beautiful everyday living. Naming the brand Le Sac Sulpice felt like bringing that inspiration full circle.
FLM: Who is the quintessential Le Sac Sulpice girl?
PM: She's always on the go. She appreciates quality, loves to travel, values thoughtful design, and doesn't believe she should have to choose between style and function. Whether she's heading to the beach, the farmers market, school drop-off, or catching a flight, she wants one bag that can do it all.
FLM: Do you design with trends in mind, or do you intentionally avoid them?
PM: I pay attention to trends, but I don't chase them. I prefer creating timeless pieces that people will reach for year after year. My inspiration comes from travel, coastal destinations, architecture, textiles, and color. I want every collection to feel fresh without feeling fleeting.
FLM: What details are you most obsessive about when designing a bag?
PM: Proportion, functionality, and comfort. Every handle length, pocket placement, strap, and proportion is considered. A bag has to look beautiful, but more importantly, it has to work beautifully.
FLM: Is there one design element people may not notice at first but that makes a big difference?
PM: The weight, or rather, the lack of it. People are always surprised by how incredibly lightweight our bags are, especially considering how much they can carry. Once you've carried one, it's hard to go back.
FLM: What's been the biggest challenge you've had to solve so far?
PM: Launching a brand means wearing every hat, from product development and logistics to marketing and customer service. Learning to balance creativity with the realities of running a business has been both the biggest challenge and the most rewarding part.
FLM: How would you describe your personal style?
PM: Classic with a relaxed European influence. I love crisp button-down shirts, striped sweaters, denim, linen, and pieces that feel effortless rather than over-styled.
FLM: What are three items in your closet you cannot live without?
PM: A great striped shirt, vintage denim, and, of course, my Le Sac Sulpice tote.
FLM: Are you someone who carries one bag for everything?
PM: Absolutely. That's exactly why I created Le Sac Sulpice. I wanted one bag that could seamlessly take me through the entire day.
FLM: What's always inside your own bag?
PM: My phone, sunglasses, eyeglasses (can’t live without!), wallet, Aquaphor, keys, gummy candy and a reusable water bottle. As a founder, there's always a laptop tucked inside too.
FLM: Was there a moment when you knew the business was gaining real momentum?
PM: Our first major pop-up was that moment. Watching customers purchase bags, come back with friends, and seeing several styles sell out gave me confidence that the concept resonated. Since then, the momentum has continued to build through retailers, online sales, and word of mouth.
FLM: Are there new categories or collaborations you'd love to explore? What's next?
PM: Definitely. We're already working on expanding the collection with new silhouettes and seasonal colorways, and I'd love to explore travel accessories and meaningful collaborations with brands that share our values of thoughtful design and everyday functionality.
FLM: Which is the one bag in the collection that everyone needs this season?
PM: The Biarritz Maxi Tote. It's the definition of an everyday, everywhere bag—perfect for the beach, travel, errands, or simply carrying everything life throws your way.
FLM: How has being based locally influenced your brand?
PM: Fairfield has been an incredible place to launch a business. The community has embraced the brand from day one, and so many early customers, retailers, and supporters came from right here. There's a real sense of people wanting to champion local entrepreneurs.
