If you’ve ever been to a PVCL event, chances are you’ve been in front of Barret Elengold’s lens.
For our June Men’s Issue, we’re spotlighting some of his personal favorite sports-infused photographic moments, along with tidbits behind the shots.
BARSTOOL BEEF
"There’s a certain chaos to events like this. You’re constantly moving, chasing moments before they disappear. This one stood out because it felt completely on brand without trying too hard. Him standing in front of a cutout of himself, fully leaning into it, captured the entire energy of the day in one frame."
CORBIN CARROLL
"This was at a card pulling event for MLB players (because they're into collecting, too!). This was one of those split second moments. He pulled the card, held it up, and I just reacted. What I love is how real it feels. No posing, just pure excitement."
DEVIN BOOKER
"This was a genuine laugh in the middle of everything else. That’s what makes it different. This was taken at the Suns practice facility. While my main camera was set up for video, I was moving around capturing candid moments. So cool to catch him relaxed, laughing, and fully himself."
SERENA WILLIAMS
"When you’re documenting someone like Serena, you don’t chase perfection. That smile, mid conversation, in front of thousands, felt effortless and real. This was in LA during a mental health panel where she spoke openly about her struggles. The vulnerability in that room made this moment powerful to capture."
GARY VEE
"This was a full circle moment. Walking through Radio Row at the Super Bowl and catching him mid interview. It wasn’t just about the photo, it was about everything it represented. Gary was someone I listened to, and being there in that moment, camera in hand, meant everything."
KIRK COUSINS
"Sometimes it’s as simple as a quick conversation and asking for the shot. What makes this one stand out is how genuine it feels. No pressure, just a real moment.
We had a short, easy conversation, and he was so gracious. You can feel it in the photo."
DILLON BROOKS
"Dillon was settling in, getting ready, and everything slowed down for a second. That’s when I stepped in. This was Dillon's merch drop at Guest List Tempe. The city showed up, and this shot captured the calm just before it all took off."
ARCHIE BRADLEY
"This was taken at the 16th hole inside one of the tents at the Phoenix Open. Archie had just gotten a tattoo done right there, something that’s never been done at Waste Management. This moment was right after it was finished, him standing with his tattoo artist, Caleb Hail. So wild!"
RANDY JOHNSON
"I’ve always liked being the fly on the wall. Capturing Randy reflecting on his journey added a different layer. It’s not just who he was, it’s who he is now. This was at a corporate event in Scottsdale where he spoke about his career and photography. Listening while shooting made the moment even more meaningful."
JACOBY BRISSETT & TREY MCBRIDE
"I was covering the WMPO Celebrity Pro Am and had the chance to walk the green while Trey’s group was playing. It’s rare to be that close to the action, moving alongside them as the round unfolds. What made this moment stand out was seeing his buddy, QB Jacoby Brissett, there supporting him."
