Zach Heffernan, a senior at Boerne-Champion, won the Texas Junior Amateur title in 2019 and 2020. He is well on his way to becoming a golfer to be reckoned with in the future. He is the third player ever in the tournament's 94-year history to win in consecutive seasons. And he's the first to accomplish the feat in 25 years.

Zach has been golfing since the age of 5 and at Baylor he will play for Mike McGraw, someone who has coached many PGA talents. Even though the pandemic affects tournaments, Zach  explains he has been practicing a lot more. “By e-learning I have had more opportunities to spend time at the golf course.  I think this time has allowed me to improve me game.” He’d like to bring home the top wins to Champion High School in his senior year.

When asked how long before he tries out for the PGA tour, Zach stated, “I hope to try to play at this level after I finish college.”

He also has high praise for his swing coach, Bryan Gathright.  “I have been going to him since I was about 11.  He is an incredible instructor and works with me on all aspects of my game.  His instruction was been tremendous for my game.  My high school coach Jason Sweatman has been a big influence on me as well.  I enjoy playing for Coach Sweatman and our assistant coach, Coach Alamillo."

Zach enjoys being a part of his high school team and considers his teammates his closest friends.  “I wouldn’t trade it for anything!”
