In World War II, Clyde served his country in the Army's 77th Infantry Division. Leading a 12-rifleman squad, he displayed remarkable bravery and courage, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. However, fate intervened when Clyde was wounded in battle, forcing him to return home. It was during this time that he began his family and honed his skills as a moonshiner.
Clyde May's reputation as a moonshiner quickly spread throughout the region. Known for his commitment to quality, he never sold a bottle of moonshine legally in his life. Instead, his spirits were cherished and sought after by his neighbors, who recognized his craftsmanship and dedication.
