Community in Motion: Jonquil City Jog

A Smyrna tradition that continues to grow, inspire, and give back.

The skies were gray, but the energy in Smyrna was anything but.

With more than 750 runners registered, this year’s Jonquil City Jog brought the community together for a morning defined by movement, encouragement, and heart. While the weather threatened, it ultimately held off—making way for a remarkable race day.

From the start, there was a buzz in the air. Jessica “It’s All Good” set the rhythm with upbeat music and lively entertainment, while the Campbell High Spartan mascot kept the crowd smiling and engaged. Behind the scenes, CHS ROTC members moved with quiet efficiency, helping runners check in and keeping everything running smoothly.

Out on the course—and especially at the finish line—the support was impossible to miss. Campbell High football players lined the final stretch, cheering runners in with contagious enthusiasm. As each participant crossed, they were met with cheers, cold water, and plenty of encouragement. Every runner received a race T-shirt and medal, while top finishers in each age category earned ribbons. First-place winners were treated to a well-deserved (and well-loved) reward: a signature pie from Kenny’s Great Pies.

Mayor Derek Norton presented awards, while Support Smyrna played a key role in bringing the event to life, working alongside the Campbell High School Educational Foundation, City of Smyrna staff, and a dedicated group of volunteers. Proceeds from the Jonquil City Jog directly benefit both organizations, extending the impact far beyond race day.

This year’s event was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including Big Peach Running Co. (Smyrna/Vinings), Kenny’s Great Pies, Smyrna Vinings Lifestyle, Chick-fil-A (South Cobb), Good Kitchen, Nothing Bundt Cakes, West Stride, QDS, GLOCK, Chess 2 Children, KBH Industrial, Carmichael Funeral Homes, RoofTop Contracting, Croy Engineering, Barnsley Construction, Vickery Hardware, Capital City, The Vineyard Wine Market, SouthState Bank, Compass Academy, Way2Play Sports, and Way2Play Cheer.

Because that’s the thing about the Jonquil City Jog—it doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built by people who care deeply about this community and show up to make it better.

And year after year, Smyrna responds.

If you’ve never been part of it, next year is your chance to lace up and experience it for yourself.

Year after year, Nick O'Conner shows up—and at 91, he’s still going strong. Completing the 1K once again, he inspired runners and spectators alike, proving that determination, joy, and a love for the race have no age limit.
