Throughout the good times and the bad, the highs and the lows, the Bengford family is grateful to navigate life together.

The Bengfords own and operate King’s Pawn, located at 2600 8th Ave. A family-run business, Frank and Sandy Bengford purchased King’s Pawn in 1977. King’s Pawn offers a trade that is one of the oldest known to humanity, with pawnbroker trading originating back to ancient Greece, medieval China and medieval Europe.

With almost 50 years of operating the shop, the Bengfords appreciate working alongside each other—Frank and Sandy’s three sons, Troy, Todd and Jared, and their granddaughter, Arienna, work with them at the store.

“Being with family on a daily basis is a blessing, one not taken for granted,” says Sandy.

The Bengford family faced a tough hardship this year when Frank passed away. With the loss of a leader, husband and father, Sandy says it’s been difficult for the family to continue the journey without him.

“We know he is watching over us, and, now more than ever, we need to come together as a family unit to make sure we are all taken care of,” says Sandy. “I know that’s what he would want us to do.”

Aside from being family-run, King’s Pawn is also in the business of helping other families and local businesses in times of trouble, by avoiding the traditional form of loans that rely on credit.

Akin to family dynamics, compassion and empathy are at the heart of how the Bengfords serve the community.

“Our patrons put their trust in us and choose us as their partner, and it’s a tremendous honor,” says Sandy.

Just as the Bengfords are honored to receive their customers' trust and support, the family puts their trust in each other as they journey through life’s ups and downs, as well.

“Being with family on a daily basis is a blessing, one not taken for granted."
