Corners Of The Heart

Keep Living

The fall season is upon us, but because of the world's changes, so much of the season seems different, but is it really?

Fall is a beautiful time when the leaves turn, the kiddos are back in school, and a chill accompanies the air. It's also when nature takes time to cleanse itself of the old in preparation for the new. We also go through seasons in life because we shed, go into ourselves, and grow new pieces. It's normal to try and process things and make them fit into what we recognize, but we must resist the fear to hold onto what's gone.

Like some of you, I've lost family members during this time, and in a span of four months, three have left my side. The traditional ceremonies created to help offer closure weren't permitted due to COVID-19; therefore, processing has taken on a new shape.

My grandmother, who lived a beautiful 88 years, passed away right in my home, and just knowing that I turned the corner and she departed was tough to swallow. She was a warrior, born during the Great Depression, survived the Civil Rights era, was a wife, and mothered eight children. I'm sure you can imagine that life gave her some sunshine and rain.

When I seemed hurt or surprised by life, she would say, "Keep living." I used to think she was giving me a warning, but now I understand she meant to inspire me. She was saying that no matter what comes, I had to keep going forward. She was telling me that no matter what the seasons of my life would bring, if I opened up the corners of my heart, then there would always be love to share, dreams to dream, plans to make, and hope for better days.

Fredricka Fonta, creator and owner of Glamorous Hippe, shares a corner of her heart in this month's Frisco Life, reminding us to Keep Living and moving forward through each season of life.
