When we think of cozy spaces, images of warmth and comfort flood our minds. Our eyes may take on a dreamy look and we may wish for that perfect cozy space. Well, dream no more! Dana Adlam, Interior Designer and owner of Divine Design, says a cozy feeling can be easily achieved in your home.
“A cozy space should feel inviting. It should also invoke a sense of joy and peace, especially during the holidays,” explains Dana. You can accomplish this through “layering” with colors, textures and lighting. Consider pops of seasonal hues such as pumpkin spice in a dried flower arrangement. For a throw, indulge in a texture that feels amazing against your skin. Velvet, knitted, or luxurious cotton? Could an area have too many pillows? “Add as many as you would like,” laughs Dana. Lighting and scents also add to the mood. Perfume the room with a diffuser filled with organic essential oils, add dimmers to overhead lights or center a candelabra for drama. When creating a cozy space, think about ways to accentuate and compliment, rather than clutter and constrict.
The Peachtree City designer lent her 20 years of expertise in the lovely Cresswind home of Sondra and Woody Brown. Dana tastefully created relaxing yet functional areas for the couple to host their “clean-crafted” wine tastings. Design selections included handmade and custom-made pieces by local artists and artisans. “We are spoilt for choice here in Fayette County. Plus the gesture of good will is perfect for the season!” shares Dana.
“Dana took time to understand us and our vision. Working with her has provided us with a more balanced space in our forever home, with extra warmth and comfort,” says Sondra Brown.
