Fossner Timepieces Continues a Global Watchmaking Legacy in Westwood

Fossner Timepieces is more than a watch repair shop, it is a living testament to three generations of horological mastery. Owner Peter Fossner, a third-generation watchmaker, brings over four decades of global experience to Westwood, continuing a family legacy that began in Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia, and evolved into a recognized name in the watch world.

The Fossner family’s passion for timepieces carried across the Atlantic to the United States, where Peter’s parents, Alex and Renee Fossner, built careers repairing and selling clocks in Manhattan. Their workshop became Peter’s classroom, teaching him not only technical skills but values that would shape his life.

“My father always repaired clocks with respect, patience, and love,” Peter says. “He never took shortcuts — and he taught me to do the same.”

Those early lessons became the foundation of Fossner Timepieces, founded in New York in 1971. The business quickly earned a reputation throughout the watch world. In the late 1980s, Peter expanded globally with J&P Timepieces, specializing in high-end watches and traveling extensively throughout international markets. Through this work, he bought, sold, and handled some of the world’s most sought-after timepieces, many of which have appeared in prominent auction houses.

Over his 40+ years in Manhattan and international markets, Peter has maintained an unmatched level of expertise in handling and restoring watches, and few watchmakers today have the same breadth of experience.

“Every repair is done with the utmost care and accuracy,” Peter says. “We want every customer to trust us with their timepieces.”

Fossner Timepieces in Westwood continues to provide all the same services the family has offered for decades. The shop repairs all watches—from everyday timepieces to high-end watches such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Omega, Piaget, Breitling, Longines, Audemars Piguet, and more. They also repair clocks of all kinds and even provide house calls. In addition, customers can purchase pre-owned premier watches directly from the shop.

Peter’s expertise covers everything from grandfather and cuckoo clocks to rare, historically significant watches. He approaches each repair with precision and respect, understanding the personal and historical value embedded in every piece.

“No matter what they bring, we want them to feel confident that we can bring their family heirlooms or generational treasures back to life again,” he says.

After decades of commuting into Manhattan and traveling worldwide, Peter opened the Westwood location at 289 Westwood Ave, marking a new chapter in the family business. The move allows him to bring his expertise into the community while continuing the same high-level services he has always provided.

“I love being part of this community,” he says. “Since moving here five months ago, I’ve loved every second of it.”

In the shop, customers bring more than watches and clocks—they bring stories. Some carry a grandfather clock that has marked generations of holidays, a wristwatch passed down from a parent, or a long-hidden pocket watch. Each piece receives careful attention, ensuring its mechanics are restored and its legacy preserved.

“I love seeing the smile when a prized possession comes back to life,” Peter says. “It brings me joy to help my community.”

Over the years, Peter has worked with extraordinary timepieces, including a Longines “Hour Angle” watch commemorating the 70th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s Atlantic crossing. Such watches are a reminder of the history and craftsmanship Peter has been privileged to handle throughout his travels.

Peter remains committed to each customer, combining technical expertise with genuine interest in their stories. Fossner Timepieces is not just a shop—it is a place where memories are preserved, family history continues ticking, and old-world craftsmanship finds a home in town.

In an era dominated by mass production, few watchmakers can match Peter’s experience. His decades in Manhattan, international dealings with high-end timepieces, and generational knowledge make him a rare figure left in the field.

As Peter settles into this next chapter, his mission remains exactly what his parents taught him: do honest work, treat every timepiece and person with respect, and never rush what deserves patience. In Westwood, he continues to repair, restore, and sell luxury watches and clocks with that same dedication, ensuring each piece receives the care and attention it deserves. In the heart of the community, Fossner’s legacy endures—one restored tick at a time.
