Crafting A Stylish Centerpiece

Local Designer Shows How To Create The Perfect Holiday Table Setting

“For the holidays, you can’t beat home sweet home.”

Al Stillman, Robert Allen

After dealing with the pandemic for the past few years, many people are once again opening their homes to friends and family as they celebrate the holiday season. They are working hard to prepare their abodes in eager anticipation of entertaining holiday visitors.

Most home celebrations revolve around the dining room. After all, it is the place where feasts are served to the delight of guests young and old.

To prepare for the coming special occasions, many homeowners take the opportunity to adorn their dining rooms with special decorations that reflect the sentiment of the season, as well as evoke memories of holidays past. One of the most popular redecoration projects involves finding the perfect dining room table centerpiece.

While decorative centerpieces are the hallmark of holiday dining rooms, many homeowners do not know how to begin the selection and crafting process. Fortunately, one local interior designer has a few tips to make tabletop decorating a fun, and stress-free occasion.

Lyn Wray, owner of Lyn Wray interiors, has been creating innovative interior design projects around the country for over 30 years. Along with her assistant and mother, Susan Caldwell, Lyn has the expertise to redesign any interior living space, especially the dining room.

“I specialize in residential design with an eye for the unique,” says Lyn. “I love assisting clients in downsizing, relocating and incorporating their own furnishings into a fresh new look.”

Lyn’s interest in dining table centerpieces comes from her personal love of entertaining guests.

“I love hosting dinner parties at my home,” says Lyn. “Although I love to cook, my forte is setting and decorating the dining room table.”

Lyn’s advice to homeowners seeking to craft their own table settings is simple – start with what you have.

“Before tackling a tabletop project, a homeowner should look around their house to see if they already have items they can use,” says Lyn. “For example, an existing fall wreath can serve as a centerpiece when adorned with candles set inside at various heights. It looks particularly elegant when placed upon a layer of tablecloths featuring different textures and colors. Top it off with Grandma’s china and some vintage glassware, and you will have a lovely holiday table setting.”

Repurposing existing items is not the only way that would-be decorators can save money.

“I do a lot of my decoration shopping close to the holiday season to get the best deals,” says Lyn. “Many craft and design stores offer 50% off decorations in order to clear their inventories, resulting in great savings for shoppers.”
