Growing up in Waterside section of Stamford in the 1960s and ’70s, Stamford-based
artist Tommy Pellini (aka Tommy Utah Designs) learned early that creativity often begins with imagination, resourcefulness and a willingness to build something from nothing. Today, that same spirit defines his distinctive steampunk-inspired creations—one-of-a-kind works that blend industrial design, nostalgia and storytelling into functional art.
A retired union electrician, Tommy discovered a renewed creative spark after leaving his longtime career. What began as a pinball-themed table quickly evolved into an
expansive collection of custom lamps, sculptural installations and conversation pieces crafted from pipes, gauges, salvaged metal and vintage-inspired materials. Each work reflects both precision craftsmanship and playful personality.
Tommy’s artistic style is rooted in the hands-on lessons of his childhood where he
developed a lifelong appreciation for working with his hands and transforming everyday materials into something memorable. “When I was a kid, I was always building or making things, and then in my ‘50’s I graduated to putting motors in them and making things move”, says Pellini.
In recent years, his work has attracted collectors seeking statement pieces with
