Rocheport Distilling Co. stirs up an autumnal old fashioned

November is the month of cozy sweaters, fireplaces and a holiday full of food and drink. Let us help you enjoy this time of year even more with a delicious new cocktail from Rocheport Distilling Co. called the Apple Butter Old Fashioned. It’s your typical Old Fashioned with a fall twist. The drink mixes the sweetness of apple butter, wood notes from black walnut bitters and, of course, the warm notes of vanilla and richness of brown sugar found in the distillery’s own eight-year bourbon to create a truly delectable, smooth drink for all of this season’s occasions.

The Apple Butter Old Fashioned is currently on the fall and winter cocktail menu at The Bistro and is available at The Tasting Room during its Holiday Open House on Nov. 13-15 and at The Bistro's Thanksgiving Brunch on Nov. 15.

2 oz. Rocheport Distilling Co. Bourbon

1 oz. apple butter

2 dashes angostura bitters

Garnish: Luxardo cherry and dried apple peel or slice

Directions:

  1. Combine: Add the apple butter, Angostura bitters and black walnut bitters to the bottom of a mixing glass.
  2. Dissolve: Pour in a splash of the bourbon and stir well to break up and dissolve the thick apple butter into the bitters.
  3. Chill: Add the remaining bourbon and fill the mixing glass with ice. Stir thoroughly for about 20–30 seconds.
  4. Strain: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a rocks glass over ice.

Rocheport Distilling Co. is part of The Blufftop at Rocheport, the home of Les Bourgeois Vineyards. The distillery is located on a blufftop containing an old dynamite bunker. Its story invokes the new and old, the innovators and pioneers, while remaining deeply rooted in Missouri. The company is committed to the future of Missouri distilling through the highest-quality ingredients, responsible production and local distribution.

Preparation for the distillation process happens in conjunction with The Blufftop at Rocheport, using its grapes as a sugar source to produce the company’s brandies. The distillers utilize a modular still to achieve the spirits' distinctive flavors. This process culminates in distillation that can be delicate because of the interaction among weather, wood and the aging spirits. The team, however, presents only the finest finished product to customers seeking a premium taste experience.

Rocheport Distilling Co. launched in October 2025 with an eight-year bourbon, an eight-year  rye, and two unique gins, Dawn and Dusk, with more offerings coming soon.
