For Ryan and Kirsten Buck, owners of Aromas on Oak, their coffee shop fulfills three specific purposes: community, coffee, and connections.
“Coffee isn't the number one thing because it's the community that we want, then comes the coffee,” shared Ryan. “We also really want to make connections…not only have people be able to make connections here, but we want to make connections with the community as they come to us. We want to provide a comfortable place to serve as a hub where people can come, relax and enjoy themselves.”
Connecting with residents began during the early stages of the shop’s creation as the couple solicited input from local citizens using social media polls and feedback questions.
“We've really made it a point during every step of the way to focus on using the community to build this place,” said Ryan. “It has been fun to see the community engage and being able to get feedback to ensure that what we build here is something the community wants.”
To help turn their dream into a reality, the Bucks turned to local business owner Ben Huso with Huso Construction. “I met Ben at a Metroport Chamber of Commerce meeting and found out that he does construction,” said Ryan. “It was great being able to work with somebody who is active in our community and is invested in the success of local businesses.”
Encouraged by everyone’s enthusiasm and support for the shop, the Bucks look forward to giving back by partnering with a different local charity, school, or team each month. In addition to providing patrons with opportunities to donate to the organizations by rounding up to the next dollar during purchases, the organizations will be spotlighted using educational materials in the shop.
