Refreshing Watermelon Lemonade

Summer is right around the corner! I can’t believe how fast this year is already going. With several months of isolating, I’m thankful for the sunny and warm weather we’ve been getting.

One of my favorite things about summer is all the delicious treats. Fresh squeezed lemonade is on the top of my list! We make all kinds of variations on this summer classic, but watermelon lemonade has got to be my favorite! It’s so refreshing and it’s the perfect addition to backyard barbecues and hot summer days.

I like to fancy mine up a bit by adding some garnish like extra lemon slices, mint, or a sprinkle of Tajin on the rim! And for an adult twist, an ounce of vodka or tequila would make a delicious cocktail.

  • 1/2 of a medium watermelon
  • 6 large lemons
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 cups water
  • Optional garnish - Tajin to rim your glass, mint sprigs, lemon slices
  • Optional add in- vodka or tequila for an adult beverage twist!

  1. Make a simple syrup with one cup of the water and one cup of sugar. Heat water on stove, add sugar, and stir until dissolved. Set aside and let cool
  2. Scoop 1/2 of the watermelon into a blender, and purée until smooth. Strain liquid into pitcher using a fine mesh strainer
  3. Juice lemons. You should have at least one cup of lemon juice, or a little more if you want it more tart
  4. Strain lemon juice with strainer into pitcher
  5. Add in remaining 5 cups of water along with cooled simple syrup
  6. Mix well
  7. Optional- garnish with lemon slices, fresh mint, or rim glass with Tajin. For an adult beverage, add one ounce of either vodka or tequila!
  8. Serve immediately over ice and enjoy! Serves 4-6
