Dr. Sarah Dolder’s secrets to balancing a thriving career and motherhood.

Dr Sarah Dolder, Founder of Greenwich Point Dermatology, Board-Certified Dermatologist, and mother of 3 children, shares her secret weapons that enable her to balance a successful career with the demands of motherhood and family life.

1. A Support Squad.  Behind every great woman, there is a team of amazing women!  Women are an amazing force of nature, and together we are unstoppable.  Between my amazing team at work, and my invaluable home help, I am blessed to have such incredible and capable women to surround myself with.  I ask for help when things become too much, and I delegate as much as I can so that my time can be used most efficiently.

2. Stay humble.  Humility is a huge asset as a business owner.  To know I am talented at many things, but that I also have areas of weakness.  I use this humility to guide my help. If I need help with certain tasks, I hire people who may excel in those areas to balance me out. I know I can’t be amazing at everything, and that humility helps me succeed.  Insight into our strengths and weaknesses, with self-reflection, is vital to being successful.

3. Prioritize, multitask, and be super organized.  You can’t do it all, so it’s important to prioritize what’s important in the big picture, for the week, and in every day.  I am vigilant about staying organized, and every day I check in with my to-do list to make sure I am on top of it all.  I don’t think I could live without my iPhone to keep me on track!

4. Say no.  By nature, I am a people pleaser, but I have learned to say no, in order to create more space in my life. If you don’t have the bandwidth to do something, you don’t have to do it. If you are overcommitted, be comfortable saying no.  It’s ok!

5. Never stop learning.  Life will throw us curveballs, both in our personal life and in business, but it’s how we get through the tough times that strengthens us.  I have learned from my husband to embrace challenges with optimism and courage, to move past them and come out of the other end more powerful than you were before.
