Designed for Living

David Manning has long been a defining presence in West Austin’s architectural landscape, known for crafting spaces that feel both intentional and lived-in. His work is rooted in an early understanding of how environments influence our experience of space. As a child, time spent on his grandmother’s ranch informed his awareness of light, landscape, and the way natural elements define a place. That perspective continues to guide his work today, where architecture is considered not just as structure, but as something lived and felt.

Degrees in both architecture and fine arts, along with time spent studying in Tuscany, contribute to a perspective grounded in both design and craft. His work reflects a relationship between form and function, guided by the belief that design should respond to the land and to the people who live there.

Listening remains central to his process. Each project begins with understanding how a client lives, what they value, and how a space can support that. In custom homes and renovations alike, the goal is to create spaces that feel personal, intentional, and connected to daily life.

“I am always eager to get the lay of the land,” Manning says.

In areas like Lake Travis, evolving regulations and environmental factors present ongoing challenges, resulting in work that responds to its setting and reflects real conditions. From managing solar exposure to preserving natural features, his designs show an understanding of how spaces exist over time.

For Manning, architecture is less about following trends or creating a signature style and more about understanding context, solving problems, and designing spaces that support everyday life. The work is measured not just by how it looks, but by how it lives.
