Designing with Soul

How Brasstacks Blends Character, Comfort, and Creativity

There’s something special about walking into a home that feels both beautiful and completely lived in. That’s exactly what Brasstacks brings to the homes they design across the area—spaces that feel layered, personal, and thoughtfully built to last.

At the center of that approach is interior designer Elaine Macek, whose calm, intentional style has helped countless homeowners find clarity in what can often feel like an overwhelming design process. Brasstacks has become known for interiors that balance creativity with comfort with just the right amount of risk.

"I think it is important to start with the home itself,” says Macek. “Every space gives clues that suggest what works best. By not forcing trends, and leaning into the home's character, we are able to create spaces that feel intentional. Additionally, by working with a designer, I am able to translate the Pinterest boards, and our client’s lifestyles through conversations to help narrow down options and make this less overwhelming."

That ability to interpret inspiration and transform it into something livable is what many clients appreciate most. Whether it’s a historic home with architectural quirks or a newer build waiting for personality, the team approaches every project as a collaboration, blending the client’s vision with the natural character of the space.

"I think the best way to choose timeless pieces and elements for a home is to create a warm and layered environment. We start with sourcing vintage and second-hand pieces that bring history and character with them that isn’t easily replicated with mass production. In my opinion, layering older pieces with thoughtful new selections creates a home that feels collected over time, which in turn makes the home personal and not trend driven.”

That philosophy is evident throughout their work, where rooms that mix old and new, textures that invite touch, and layouts that feel as good to live in as they look.

With both design and construction under one roof, projects flow seamlessly from concept to completion.

"I think what sets us apart from other designers and builders in the area is our intentionality. Every thought process and detail that comes together has a rhyme and reason. I think it is also great that we have design and construction under one roof. Our project managers are in the know of the design prior to a hammer swinging on site, which creates a seamless transition between design and construction, and I think that is what shines!"

That intentionality allows Brasstacks to take creative chances, leading to the most memorable results.

"It’s so hard to choose a favorite project, but I love the projects where our clients aren’t afraid to do something out of the box and take a little risk with their space, whether it be a fun color drench, cabinetry detail, or a natural stone.”

From bold cabinetry choices to richly layered living spaces, Brasstacks designs reflect a belief that homes should tell a story—one built slowly, thoughtfully, and with personality in every corner.
