Breaking Barriers

Designing With Amy is Building the Future

Women are not just participating in construction; they are leading it.

“I really enjoy owning a design and construction business,” says Amy Ostigny of Designing with Amy. “It’s having the ability to bring ideas to life.”

These past five years, Ostigny and her skilled crew of 30 have completed more than a thousand residential and commercial projects throughout the Tristate area. Now, she has begun work on national jobs with a traveling team.

“Last year we did 200 construction projects,” Ostigny shares. “It has been quite a fun journey making beautiful homes!”

Ostigny’s team has built its winning reputation on top-notch design, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, interior and exterior painting, home additions and new builds.

Ostigny graduated from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. She has since served as president of both that school’s board and of the national Commercial Real Estate Women Network. She is a member of the Homebuilder’s Association of Greater Cincinnati.

“Achieving success in design and construction has completely shifted my perspective,” Ostigny says. “Not just professionally, but personally. It has shown me the power of perseverance, the importance of trusting my vision and the value of showing up with confidence, even in the spaces where I may be underestimated.”

Ostigny eagerly offers guidance for other women who might be considering chasing down their own lofty dreams.

“Stay true to yourself,” she advises. “Authenticity fosters genuine relationships, and allows you to bring unique perspectives to your projects.”

Ostigny is proving that construction is not just a man’s world. The construction industry is about skill, intelligence and leadership–qualities that women bring in abundance.

“The progress made by women in construction is undeniable,” says Ostigny. “With continued support, the construction industry will become a field where talent and determination matter more than gender.”
