Wickenburg's Luxe and Lovely Family-Friendly Dude Ranch Escape

Founded in 1948, Wickenburg’s Rancho de los Caballeros is a family-owned-and-operated ranch resort spanning 18,000 acres across the High Sonoran Desert. Famous for Southwest hospitality, the Arizona gem stays true its Spanish caballeros roots, meaning “gentlemen on horseback."

The majority of guests are returnees, drawn to the grounds, service, serenity, and spirit of the wild west.

Operated for more than 70 years by the Gant family, in 2021, the ranch transferred ownership to another set of families who have been multigenerational frequents of the ranch for decades. Given new ownership and a fresh management team, the treasured history of Rancho de los Caballeros is preserved. However, Los Cab is also evolving.

While honoring the unique southwestern traditions for which the ranch has become famous, the property is undergoing immense upgrades like construction of a revamped pool and deck space. And up until now, the ranch has never been open in summer.

While most don’t think to beat the heat in the Arizona desert, Los Cab just announced its year-round offerings, serving as a unique escape for all seasons.

Whether you’re looking to embrace the Sonoran sun or find creative ways to keep cool, the newly renovated luxury dude ranch is offering new summertime activities outside their regular expansive cowboy programming.

Suitable for a summer getaway, the Wickenburg retreat is debuting outdoor restorative yoga sessions, pool parties with free snow cones, arts and crafts, indoor cooking and cocktail making classes, nighttime stargazing, dive-in movie nights and more. In addition, the property is home to a championship-caliber 18-hole golf course with breathtaking views of the nearby Bradshaw Mountains. Families can cart the course followed by dining at The Club Grill located in the fully renovated clubhouse.

Prior to visiting, let the Los Cab concierge curate your itinerary. In addition to the new summer weather-friendly happenings, you’ll want to book their array of traditional activities.

Work your archery skills with a custom class or rent e-bikes for cruising the desert.

Comb & Tack provides one-on-one interactions between kids and ponies teaching them proper grooming techniques, horse anatomy, and all about the saddle.

Should have been a cowboy? With the help of expert wranglers, learn the tricks of trade with roping lessons on horseback... they’ll take you step-by-step on how to catch two horns.

Befriend a horse and opt for Team Penning, acquiring skills on navigating, steering, and trotting.

Try your hand with shotgun target practice at the property’s shooting ranges; trap & skeet experiences are available via expert instructors.

And if you’re craving a break from the kiddos, sign them up for Camp Caballeros, a kid’s club for ages 5-12. (That’s the perfect time for parent pampering at the property’s spa.)

Pairing luxury with comfort, the ranch's Santa Fe inspired guest casita accommodations feature gorgeous views of Arizona’s sprawling desert landscape. The spacious layouts and comprehensive casita amenities make your Wickenburg escape ultra-fabulous. After a day in the saddle, relax in elegance; many casitas come equipped with private bedrooms, a kitchenette, living space, and fireplace.

As for food, you won’t go hungry.

From casual cookouts to refined dining, Rancho de los Caballeros has something for everyone. Enjoy large buffet breakfasts, à la carte options, and gourmet dinners in the sophisticated Main Dining Room. Dinner selections include Seared Hokkaido scallops and decadent mushroom tarts perfectly paired with craft cocktails or vino, all set with an elegant desert backdrop.

One of the best ranch hangout spots is the Western Saloon, draped with sunset views in a vibey atmosphere. Channel your inner wrangler and unwind at the bright and bold full-service bar to the tunes and charm of western music.

Make it a late night in the lobby area where you’ll find pool, poker and board games- a fun-filled family bonding experience before hitting the hay.

Most importantly, spend time immersing yourself in the presence of stunning horses. Mosey down to the renovated corral and admire the beautiful horse herd of 85.

Insider tip: ask for Tony, the head wrangler. When Tony’s not looping, cattle ranching or loping, you can find this cowboy turning old cowboy boots into functional western-themed fashion bags. They're awesome. Tell him we sent you.
