Developing Goodwill

Marc Pollack went from spearheading the residential developments of Atlantic Station, Lindbergh City Center and The Battery, to building on his passion for cooking. And the results aren’t just tasty, they are full of good intentions to work to curb homelessness in Atlanta.

Pollack spent the pandemic documenting the meals he cooked with fresh ingredients from his wife Robin’s garden in their Sandy Springs home. Since quarantine prevented him from hosting his favorite dinner parties, he planned to share the recipes with friends.

What started as a passion project turned into a book, “Chez Marc’s Quarantine Cookbook,” benefitting the Gateway Center, providing support services and stable housing for people experiencing homelessness.

Over the past four years, Pollack has pivoted from being a driving force in the residential components of some of the city’s most notable developments to focusing on homelessness and affordable housing. He co-founded the Atlanta Affordable Housing Fund to address the city’s staggering divide.

  • Grilled Shrimp Soup

Three facts about The Gateway Center:

  • Since 2005, Gateway Center has served as one of Atlanta's leading partners in the provision of housing and support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and serves over 10,000 individuals and families annually.
  • When the pandemic hit, GWC is one of a few adult shelters that continued to serve the homeless community without closing its doors or discontinuing services.
  • Gateway Center has collaborated with Partners for HOME, Fulton County Health Department, and the Atlanta Mayor’s Office to develop, implement, and staff a housing model through private-public partnerships with hotels in the Atlanta area. These re-purposed hotels and now providing lodging support during this pandemic serving as an Isolation/Quarantine hotel for anyone testing positive for COVID-19 and a second Healthy Hotel that provides safe shelter for those most at-risk.
