Aloha, We’re Alex and Rose. We run BoiFood, a social media blog for local foodies. We’re just a couple of millennials who always try to stay up to date with Selling Sunset, Bravo TV, and any other pop culture reference. You can find us at our handle above on Facebook, Instagram, and now Linkedin.
The Boisean food scene is full of hidden gems and holes in the wall. Luckily for you, it’s Alex here to talk about five of our beloved neighborhood treasures:
Certified Bakery @certifiedkitchenandbakery
This shop I would argue could stand adjacent to any big city shop from LA or New York. They are located near Camels Back Park on the North End district. The bakery is notorious for its 52-year-old sourdough starter English muffins; you can get the same starter in a pizza at their sister restaurant, the Wylder. The take-away style menu is excellent for when you’ve got some adventure planned. They have fridges stacked with whole pot pies, enchiladas, frozen soups, and pickled veggies. Plum Lunchette @plumlunchonette
One of Boise’s newest gems is the twin to Wild Plum catering and events which offer some of the best grocery kits I’ve ever seen. Chef Alex, who previously worked at the notorious Spotted Pig in New York, is a superb cook, and Tara Morgan, a previous Food & Wine Editor of the Boise Weekly, has an attention to detail that makes this place prime for people looking to eat well. Brown Sugar Soul Food @brownshugasoulfood
Female Chef of color Yvonne Anderson-Thomas’s food truck fills a much-needed gateway into the American southern and African cooking diaspora. From crawfish boils to food with all the fixings, follow them on Instagram or Facebook to see their next location and menu. Info: brownshugasoulfood.com
Kin Boise @kin_boise
Chef Kris Kimori is arguably Boise’s most esteemed chef holding the highest James Beard award nominations and is Boisean Kindness meets Portlandia Wierd. They offer impressive meal kit dinner’s that make modern gastronomy simple with at home videos. Info: kinboise.com
Petit Four @eatatpetit4
This city has always held a certain Parisian vibe, and that is celebrated quintessentially at La Petit Four. Chef Sarah Kelly and her husband, Dave, built a cult-like following with their Bluebird sandwiches that still pop up from time to time. One of my favorite places to brunch in boi-town.
