Dock. Dine. Explore.

Your guide to Charleston’s best boat-friendly waterfront restaurants

There’s no better way to explore Charleston than by boat.

For this month’s “Explore” issue, we created a Dock & Dine map featuring some of our favorite local waterfront destinations that are easy to access by boat. Whether you’re heading out for a casual afternoon cruise or planning a full day on the water, these spots make it easy to pull up, tie off, and enjoy everything Charleston’s dockside dining scene has to offer.

Shem Creek
We’re starting with the obvious, because honestly, it’s hard to beat Shem Creek. Pulling up here gives you access to some of Mount Pleasant's most iconic waterfront bars and restaurants, all within walking distance of the docks.

Island Cabana Bar
Just a short cruise across the harbor is a hidden tropical escape tucked inside Seabreeze Marina. Keep an eye out for the green “open” dock signs, which indicate complimentary first-come, first-served slips available for patrons. It’s the perfect stop for frozen drinks, live music, and laid-back harbor vibes.

California Dreaming
Docking is first come, first served, and while there’s no docking assistance, the easy access and waterfront views make it well worth the stop.

Islander 71
This may be our personal favorite — for a lot of reasons. Easy docking, friendly staff, plenty of outdoor seating, and a fun, energetic atmosphere make it feel like the perfect spot for a salty sailor to grab a cold drink and a great meal after a day on the water.

Charleston Harbor Marina
Dockage here does require a fee, but the access to surrounding restaurants and bars makes it worth it. Grab casual bites and drinks at Reel Bar, enjoy rooftop cocktails at Bridge Bar or head to Fish House for a dinner overlooking Patriots Point.

Wando River Marina
Tie up here and you’ll find yourself at one of North Mount Pleasant’s local staples. Arrive at the right time and you can enjoy live music while taking in peaceful views of the Wando River — a perfect way to wind down after a day on the boat.

Daniel Island Marina
Daniel Island Marina also charges a small hourly dockage fee, but the staff is incredibly helpful and the location gives you easy access to some fantastic Daniel Island restaurants. From The Dime, to Vinea, or The Kingstide — .

Charleston’s waterways are part of what makes this city so special. And even if you don’t own a boat, you can still experience all of these waterfront spots with ease. Boat rentals around Charleston make it simple to get out on the water for the day. Prefer to stay on land? Every destination on this map is also accessible by car, so you can still enjoy the dockside dining, waterfront views, and laid-back coastal atmosphere that make these restaurants local favorites.

So grab the map, gather your crew, and go explore Charleston — by water or by land.

Cruise the Lowcountry, dock for dinner, stay for the sunset.
