On the road of life, when your future’s so bright, you gotta have shade.
Fueled by their passion for automobiles, Kevin and Jennifer Cuozzo, owners of Doctor Tint and Details, have provided customers with shade and detailing to keep their cars protected and looking their best for 27 years.
“We have a car-obsessed life,” Jennifer said, noting cars were a central aspect of their lives growing up. “My dad had over 100 vehicles and Kevin’s dad worked in the auto industry. We both spent a great deal of time in car dealerships.”
Frederick natives, Jennifer and Kevin met at Frederick Community College and married in 1997. At the time, Kevin was working for an automotive detail shop while Jennifer finished her accounting degree at Hood College. On their honeymoon, the newlyweds were given the opportunity to buy the business where Kevin was employed.
“We took a chance then dedicated our lives to making it successful,” said Jennifer, which included working seven days a week and learning all they could about services such as window tinting, ceramic coating, detailing, and paint protection film.
In the beginning, Kevin used knowledge he obtained while training under the previous owner and worked primarily with dealerships. Over the years, he grew his skills by learning more tricks of the trade and getting certified in ceramic coating through Detail King in Pittsburgh. Jennifer has handled the other side of the business, by taking care of bookkeeping, customer service, and marketing.
Through the years, they invested in the Frederick Doctor Tint business “piece by piece”. “We started with the detailing aspect, then took on automotive window tinting, and finally took on residential and commercial window tinting,” Kevin said.
The road to success wasn’t an easy one for the Cuozzos - there were hard times on their journey as well, including the aftermath of 09/11 and the Covid Pandemic.
“There were two years when we didn’t pay ourselves and lived off savings and credit cards,” Jennifer said. “It was hard, but it has been a great business.”
The business has grown to include another location in Delaware, near Bethany Beach, and more than 10 employees, including two detailers who have been there for more than twenty years. “We have grown a family with our customers and employees,” Jennifer said.
The couple’s daughter, Lillian, and her boyfriend, Jimmy Lucas, are both part of the family business and strive to be integral participants in the company’s operations. “They are just as dedicated as we are,” said Jennifer.
As Kevin and Jennifer look to the future, they are not only proud of their accomplishments thus far, but also that they did it as a team.
“The best part is that we have built it together,” Jennifer said. “It has made our relationship stronger. It all keeps getting better.”

UNIQUE SERVICES:
Automotive Window Tinting improves the driving experience because it protects against heat and glare, while also protecting the car’s interior by preventing cracking and fading. Drivers are also protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Window tinting is recommended by dermatologists and the Skin Cancer Foundation.
Ceramic Coating is a protective layer for car’s paint, similar to wax. The liquid polymer chemically bonds to the vehicle and serves as a first line of defense against water, debris, and scratches.
Residential and Commercial Window Tinting protects the interior of homes and businesses, while also blocking out harmful UV rays and cutting heating/cooling costs. Doctor Tint and Details were contracted to do window tinting at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History and the pickleball courts inside the Armory.
