Doggie Day Out

Scottsdale's Most Pet-Friendly Places

Chaparral Dog Park

Sprawling green open space and plenty of shade make Chaparral Dog Park a local favorite for people and their pups alike. Named Scottsdale's best dog park, this location offers three acres of grass, benches, play features and water fountains. Located at the southeast corner of Hayden Road and McDonald Drive, this dog park has both areas for passive and more active dogs, with plenty of opportunities for socialization. Surrounded by lush landscaping and conveniently located right in the heart of Scottsdale, this is a perfect spot for dogs to release energy and get some exercise.

Is your pet ready for his closeup? There is no greater beauty than the personality of a pet, and Jason Millstein Photography understands that. His unique business model is to bring forth the personality and individuality of your pet and capture it as an art form for the pet owner.

"It's about the essence of the animal. A pet photo can be expressive or beautiful, but maybe it doesn’t depict your pet, so we work together to choose what we want as a final piece for you to cherish," Jason says.

Millstein likes to have a conversation about a pet before he begins a session, then he lets the session progress to truly capture an animal's characteristics.

"Sometimes it’s a toy or an outfit or a photo of you together. We love to go deeper into who your animal is."

A photographer for 20 years with a background working in documentaries, Jason contracted out of New York and later, through local shoots with his own dog, received praise for his work by his vet.

"That led to other shots, and I was eight deep doing animal photos. The Humane Society recruited me for their annual report and documentary photos. Now I am booked out three months and I couldn't be happier," he says.

Scottsdale Doggie Suites

Summertime means travel for many pet parents, so why not send your pets to a luxury boarding facility while you’re away?

“Scottsdale Doggie Suites offers exclusive accommodations for your pet at affordable prices. Our rates are all-inclusive, and our motto is ‘your best friend is our best friend,’” says owner Shayna Kagel.

Celebrating its sixth year, Scottsdale Doggie Suites caters to the needs of the dog and makes sure they, too, feel like they’re on vacation. The worry-free environment has many perks—dogs can play all day in indoor/outdoor play yards with dogs their own size. At night, pets can retreat to posh themed suites with TVs or relax in the media center, complete with a big-screen TV and comfortable couches.

“We have a 50 states theme, so each room is different and colorful—the Vegas room looks like Vegas. We also offer an overnight guardian and keep your pet’s schedule as close to when they are at home as possible," she says. "I have a background as a veterinary assistant, so I am attuned to any issues a dog is having and can act quickly. My sister also works here, so we bring a family feel to the business."

A large and well-appointed grooming salon also resides onsite, and a “Pamper and Play” package is available. Pet parents can drop pets off for a grooming and let them stay for the day and play while they return to work. It’s just another way that Scottsdale Doggie Suites treats pets as individuals—but in a fun-filled group setting.
