Dogtopia of Chattanooga Southside opened in August and is already making a difference locally and nation-wide. Cameron Estey, owner of this Dogtopia location, and Enoch Naklen, his right-hand man, share about the ways they’re involved in supporting a multitude of causes.
Dogtopia Foundation
One way Dogtopia of Chattanooga is making a difference by raising funds to support the larger Dogtopia Foundation, where donations go to three areas of support.
“The first area the Dogtopia Foundation supports is service dogs for veterans,” Cameron shares. For every $6,000 raised, a service dog is able to be trained and placed with a military veteran.
The Dogtopia Foundation also supports youth literacy with therapy dogs. “They bring certified therapy dogs into schools to aid reading programs and help emotional wellness,” Cameron and Enoch explain. “After COVID, when students returned to school after not having much direct human interaction, they felt lonely. That's where therapy dogs are most impactful.”
Finally, Dogtopia supports autism employment initiatives, creating career opportunities and workplace training for adults on the spectrum. “We feel that being a paid caretaker for dogs and running the room themselves is powerful for their self-worth,” Cameron shares.
Local Businesses and Nonprofits
Dogtopia of Chattanooga also supports local businesses and creates partnerships in the area. “There’s a section of our front desk with recommendations for treats, veterinarians, coffee shops, and places that are dog-friendly,” Enoch shares. They enjoy coming alongside other businesses, veterinary clinics, and nonprofits to host events for the community.
Community Involvement
At community events, Dogtopia of Chattanooga frequently sets up a tent with refreshments and activities for pets. “We’ll also do spin-the-wheel activities with free offerings for our location, like nail trims, spa baths, or a week of daycare,” Enoch says.
Cameron, Enoch, and the whole team are grateful for the Chattanooga community and the support they’ve experienced. They hope to continue to find new ways to partner with and boost the community.
