Here in Pensacola, we are known for our coastal charm, and exceptional lifestyle, yet we also face significant challenges with poverty. Many families and individuals struggle to meet basic needs, and thankfully there are several organizations and programs that are dedicated to providing transitional support and resources to help them achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
Dove’s Nest, Inc. a new nonprofit in the field, is motivated to create opportunity for individuals that would otherwise not have any. It was started by Nolan and Darreyel Laster, friends and business partners, with a vision to address and improve the poverty crisis in our community during a time when the numbers are at its highest in the country, since the Great Depression.
One of their main focuses is to equip individuals with life skills and employment opportunities, with the intention of helping break the cycle of poverty. Transitional assistance not only offers a lifeline but also empowers individuals to regain control of their lives, fostering a stronger, more inclusive community.
Their holistic approach helps address immediate crises while paving the way for long-term improvement. They try to encourage self-motivation by insisting on certain requirements of accountability to remain within the program.
The organization is currently looking for a permanent transitional house in an accessible location. This matters, according to Darreyel, “because everyone should be able to access healthy food and services. You shouldn’t have to buy your groceries at the corner shop.” Dove’s Nest is looking for other organizations and philanthropic groups to join their cause. For more information call (850) 816-0861
