Dr. Sindy Goodman, of Maple Orthodontics in West Bloomfield, had a unique path toward orthodontics. As a child, her family’s financial situation prevented her from receiving regular dental care. “I never saw a dentist until I was 19 years old,” says Dr. Sindy. “I was at college. I had earned a ton of scholarships. And I had a terrible toothache.” After receiving treatment, she was inspired. “My original path as a child was to be a physician,” she says, but she then decided to pursue dentistry. In dental school, she decided to focus on orthodontics.
Maple Orthodontics is Dr. Sindy’s new practice, which she owns along with her husband, Dr. Robert Goodman, and Dr. Brandon Shoukri. All three are board-certified orthodontists and proud to own their own independent practice. Dr. Sindy notes, “We are the face of our practice. When you come, you are seeing the owners, not associates.” In addition to running the practice, Dr. Sindy trains and certifies doctors in the use of Invisalign and guides dental students at the University of Michigan and University of Detroit, while Dr. Brandon is on the faculty at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Sindy is proud of what she and her colleagues have accomplished. “I was the only Chaldean orthodontist in the United States for 20 years,” says Dr. Sindy. “The second was Dr. Brandon. That’s how we met and became partners.” At Maple Orthodontics, she notes, “We stay up to date. We give back to our profession. We focus on excellence.”
At home, Dr. Sindy is the parent of two high-schoolers and an 8th grader. She and her husband, Dr. Robert, stay involved with their children’s schools. Dr. Sindy enjoys gardening and entertaining at her Orchard Lake home, while Dr. Robert prefers golf and participating in the Dad’s Club at school. As for Dr. Brandon, he is excited to have a child on the way. Says Dr. Sindy, “Kids are our everything. When your child is happy, you are happy.” She believes this is also important when choosing treatment providers for your child, and they keep that in mind at Maple Orthodontics, striving to focus on in-person relationships over posts on social media.
Of course, while skilled treatment and good relationships are most important, Dr. Sindy also enjoys sharing her personal style. The bright, new office at Maple Orthodontics conveys this with its high-tech, contemporary, clean look. With its light colors, glass, and sleek presentation, Dr. Sindy seeks to reflect the kind of clean, professional, and up-to-date services she offers. “When I walk into a restaurant and the bathroom is clean, I know the kitchen is clean,” she muses, suggesting the importance of first impressions.
At Maple Orthodontics, which offers traditional braces, clear braces, and Invisalign, says Dr. Sindy, “We offer complimentary consultations, and second opinions at no charge. We focus on what we would expect if these were our own children.” For more information, visit mapleortho.net.
