Eat With Purpose

The Protein House Provides Food That Works With Your Body, Not Against It

Did you overdo it with the food and drinks during the holidays? Is healthy eating and better nutrition on your 2026 bucket list? Or are you already aware of how you nourish your body, but looking for a way to change up your menu and make the prep less time-consuming?

Then check out the Protein House in Overland Park. The restaurant's mission is to support and nurture people of all ages who seek to live a healthy, clean-eating lifestyle.

"As our logo says, we're a healthy fit kitchen," says General Manager Andrew High. "It's a fast, casual, clean-eating establishment. It's made for people wanting to eat a clean meal. There are two parts to what we offer. We have regular menu items, and we do actual meal prep for people based on their nutrition goals. We use all real foods, no seed oils, and everything is made fresh and cooked to order."

Protein House makes healthy eating easier for people with busy lives. One way is to take over cooking and preparing nutritious meals for home. Just order meal prep through the mobile app, website, or in person. The process includes:

  • Choose a Protein: Select any protein they offer and specify the amount by weight.
  • Pick Carbs: Options include white rice, brown rice, quinoa, or sweet potatoes, all available in half-cup increments.
  • Add Veggies: Choose from a wide variety—everything from asparagus to cabbage to zucchini. Veggies can be added in quarter or half-cup increments.
  • Select a Sauce: All the sauces are made in-house, ensuring freshness and quality. Each sauce is crafted to pair well with our proteins, grains, and veggies, adding flavor without compromising on health. The options range from tangy, savory, or mild, to suit your taste.

High says, "A lot of people get three- or four-days’ worth of meals at a time. Sometimes seven days. You can order multiple bowls at once. For example, you might get five of one type and five of another. Importantly, all our meal prep is freshly cooked to order—never frozen. Unlike many places, we don't sell frozen meals; everything is made fresh for each order."

Of course, Protein House is also a restaurant where people can get a meal to enjoy there or take to go. One of the most popular items on the menu is the acai bowls. Each one is made with organic unsweetened acai. The tropical version features vanilla whey, banana, and pineapple, topped with Purely Elizabeth Organic Gluten-Free Granola, banana slices, unsweetened coconut flakes, and flax seeds. The berry blast bowl includes strawberries and blueberries, while the coconut bowl has dates and coconut milk mixed in. For those in need of a chocolate fix, the Acai Nutty Butter bowl mixes chocolate whey, banana, blueberries, cacao, and almond milk with acai, then tops it with granola, coconut flakes, walnuts, peanut butter, honey, and flax seeds.

The restaurant also has breakfast sandwiches, wraps, bowls, and omelets, plus a wide selection of protein pancakes. Lunch options include salads and grain bowls packed with protein. Plus, burgers--yes, burgers--made with grass-fed, grass-finished beef or bison, and turkey, chicken, salmon, and a vegan burger.

There are also desserts, including peanut butter protein balls, vegan sweet potato brownies, and raw keto lime donuts.

For those wanting an acai fix for the road, Protein House offers shake versions of the bowls. The beverage menu also includes a wide variety of protein shakes to meet anyone's nutritional needs, as well as coffee drinks. Juice fans will find fresh orange, as well as anti-inflammatory, detox, gut health, and green blends. Need a wellness shot? Try the Burning Man (ginger, lemon, and cayenne pepper) or the Titan (ginger, orange, turmeric, black pepper, honey, and apple cider vinegar).

"There are so many good items here with something for everyone," High says. "It's not just for a bunch of bodybuilders. We get older people trying to stay healthy, and ones just starting to dabble in clean eating. Most are people who want to go somewhere and eat something that tastes good, knowing it was prepared fresh. They stop in here to grab something they know is working for their body instead of against it."
