The constant on-the-go lifestyle so many families in Winter Garden experience can make preparing nutritious and healthy meals on a daily basis seem impossible. With five fast food chains in Horizon West and over a dozen in Winter Garden, choosing healthy meals while dining out is challenging.
Clean Eatz Cafe brings healthy eating to the heart of the Horizon West community.
“Whether you’re trying to maintain, gain, or lose [weight], we really have meals for everybody. We have low-carb options. We have standard options, and we even have extra protein options. So we check all those boxes regardless of where anyone is on their journey,” says Clean Eatz Cafe Winter Garden owner Anthony Ferguson.
Clean Eatz Cafe offers brunch, lunch and dinner. The in-store menu includes selections like wraps, burgers and flatbread sandwiches. Large freezers line the back walls of the cafe and are filled with individually portioned grab-and-go meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cafe also offers weekly meal prep services, where you can order grab-and-go meals in bulk.
Menu selections like teriyaki burgers and Philly cheesesteak flatbreads showcase that healthy eating doesn’t mean skipping out on flavor and taste—it’s about preparation.
“We don’t cook with any grease or oil. Everything we cook is fresh. We cook everything either on a flat grill, bake it in the oven, or an air fryer,” says Ferguson. “We use scales. Everything is properly portioned.”
Ferguson notes that each meal has a detailed nutrition label containing calories, fat, protein, and macronutrient content. The labels also specify allergen information.
The restaurant menu includes keto-friendly, vegetarian and gluten-free options like power bowls, superfood-packed wraps, salads, fruit smoothies and snacks. The kid’s menu includes healthy versions of classics like mac and cheese, boneless chicken wings, and pizza rolls. The meal prep menu changes weekly, with meals like hibachi chicken, breakfast burritos and BBQ mashed potato bowls rotating throughout the year.
The frozen meals can be thawed and reheated in a microwave, on a stovetop, or in an oven. This makes them a convenient option to have a healthy meal ready to eat without defaulting to the drive-thru.
To Ferguson, keeping the meals affordable for families is a high priority. Each grab-and-go meal retails between $6 to $8 each.
“You can’t go to McDonald’s these days for that amount,” says Ferguson. “We’re able to have things that are healthy, tasty and affordable. That’s really big for our guests.”
Ferguson transitioned to restaurant ownership after a career in corporate America as an accountant for a medical biotech company. This career is what brought him, his wife, and two children to the Central Florida area six years ago. Ferguson was on the road a lot for work, but being home during COVID put things in perspective. He desired to have a more flexible career.
“I wanted to spend more time with my family. That helped make a decision on doing something that our family can do together as well as have a good purpose in our community,” Ferguson says.
Ferguson decided to turn his interest in fitness and healthy eating into a career, opening a Clean Eatz Cafe franchise just a few miles from his home.
“I love the people and this community. It’s really almost like a giant family,” he says. “I used to be away from my family a lot. By actually being here down the street, I can bring my kids to school. I’m able to pick them up. We can do activities…whether my son plays basketball or my daughter plays soccer…doing those types of things was really a God send.”
Clean Eatz offers Ferguson and his family the balance and purpose he desires.
“I really truly feel like I have a purpose in what I’m doing. They have that old saying that if you find something you love to do, you’ll never work a day in your life… It’s the honest-to-goodness truth. When I’m here, I don’t feel like I’m working.”
