Brief History of Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon and Whiskey:

The Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897 was passed to differentiate straight whiskey from all others including blended and artificial whiskey’s on the market at the time. The Bottled-In-Bond Act guarantees that 1) all the whiskey in the bottle comes from the same distillery in the same season, 2) must be aged at least four years in a government bonded warehouse and bottled at 100 proof, 3) must identify the distillery, 4) and only water can be added.

Today, Bottled-In-Bond is still a federally regulated term but it is a voluntary process. It ensures the bourbon you are drinking adheres to a tradition and guarantee of quality. While personal preference in your whiskey remains subjective, Bottled-In-Bond Bourbons are an indication of a “craft” spirit
