Empowering Women's Health

Making midlife issues manageable

Women who are experiencing perimenopause or full-on menopause often have a difficult time finding someone in the medical field to listen to their issues and/or receive help with this challenging life transition. Kim Engelhardt understands this well.

As the owner of The Aesthetic Loft in Brentwood, she often hears from her clients about their difficult midlife experiences. She’s also at an age where she can relate to what they’re going through.

Kim knew that she and her clients were not getting the answers they were seeking, and she wanted to try to make a difference. So, in May of 2025, she founded EmpowHER Health, which offers personalized hormone and weight loss solutions for women 35 and over who are navigating perimenopause, menopause, and midlife changes.

As a board-certified nurse practitioner, she has extensive experience in endocrinology, hormone health, and medical weight management. Kim is now a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner as well. “I’m really excited about what I can do to help women with their issues,” she says.

These may include sleep disturbances, fatigue, weight gain, lack of motivation, anxiety, and depression. Changes in sexual health are other factors.

All appointments are conducted through telehealth, and before meeting with Kim, patients will undergo blood work. During the appointment, which is usually about 90 minutes, she performs a thorough intake. “I ask a lot of questions, and I’m mostly just listening. I then use everything I’ve heard, not just the lab results, to make clinical decisions about what's going to be the best and safest options for them.”

If someone is a good candidate for hormone therapy, she will prescribe it. “For the past 20 years, we’ve been told to fear hormones, but that was based on a study that was done long ago, and the evidence was misinterpreted,” says Kim. For those with underlying medical issues, she can provide non-hormonal solutions.

She also recommends locally applied estrogen, which she says can make a tremendous difference for women and their sexual health. “It’s a completely non-systemic form of estrogen, so it's not even absorbed into your body.”

Kim’s patients have also had a lot of success with GLP-1 medications for weight loss. “They are so beneficial, especially for women (and men) who are struggling with that midlife slowdown where the weight keeps creeping on no matter what you do,” she says. “It also decreases inflammation overall.”

After she discusses all treatment options, she will formulate a plan of care. “If they are then interested in working with me to implement that plan, they would pay a small monthly fee,” says Kim. “It's like a concierge medical practice where I would prescribe their medications and continue to follow up with them as needed.”

The feedback has been great. Patients of EmpowHER Health are dealing with fewer symptoms and feeling more like their former selves.

Kim, who lives in Brentwood with her husband, three teenage sons, and dog Brody, is also feeling more like herself these days. “I feel much better,” she says. “It'll never be perfect, and that’s why I like to educate my patients and let them know that this is a journey.” A journey she and her patients are taking together.
