William Helms needed to breathe fresh air again. After 20 years of smoking, he was determined to quit.

He knew it would take more than a nicotine patch or gum to curb his cravings. He’d tried to quit using them on other occasions, but he returned to smoking after a couple of months. At his peak, he was smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

In November 2021, Helms, who works in information technology, decided to give hypnotherapy a try. His brother recommended hypnotherapist Carolyn Mackey of Best Hypnotherapy Denver.

“The hypnotherapy helped with the mental obsessions and craving,” says Helms. “It helped calm my nerves and thoughts about smoking.”

Soon, he’d gone six months without smoking.

As a hypnotherapist, she says, all she needs is for someone to have the will to make a change in their life. She can help guide the rest from there.

“I need a commitment level that’s 80% or above,” she says. “I am the follow-through person.”

Mackey has seen clients quit smoking, curb emotional eating, separate from a toxic partner, overcome their fears of public places — and even improve the way they communicate in a staff meeting.

“Hypnotherapy is actually a return to your true self — who you are under all the fear and resistance and trauma,” says Mackey, who launched her business out of her Westminster home office in 2021. “It’s a removal of the debris to reveal who you really are so you have more clarity, balance and composure to manage all these unhelpful patterns and beliefs.”

Helms was able to stop smoking because he wanted to make it happen, says Mackey.

“Hypnotherapy gave me some tools, such as breathing exercises and mental relaxation techniques, which helped a lot,” says Helms, who attended nine sessions. “Being able to focus on breathing and relaxing without smoking has helped tremendously.”

He adds: “I enjoy the outdoors and hiking, and it’s awesome to be able to smell nature again.”

Mackey says most clients typically need four to nine sessions to achieve the results they need. She offers a free consultation to ensure clients feel comfortable and prepared.

During a session, Mackey explains, she guides a client’s mind into a deeply focused and relaxed state. They are awake and aware, and can never be told to do something they don’t want to do.

“It’s bringing two natural states together for hyperlearning,” she says. “It’s quite beautiful how with that natural state of resourcefulness, they’re able to reprogram and create new neural pathways.”

Then Mackey and the client work through the goal they’re hoping to achieve.

“All of the bad habits are rooted in some kind of anxiety or fear,” says Mackey. “We uncover all the behavior and attend to that part of the person who wants to eat too much, wants to drink or wants to smoke.”

Katie Beaudoin wanted to find help for her social anxiety. She Googled hypnotherapists in her area after hearing about the potential for life changes.

“I think there’s a weird stigma around hypnosis from TV shows and movies, but it is completely different than what’s usually portrayed, " she says

Beaudoin saw a difference in her daily life after just a couple of sessions.

“It took me about two sessions to see a change in my thoughts, beliefs and patterns,” she says. “I started to become more confident and have more self-trust and self-love. I stepped outside of my comfort zone more — both in my personal life and my career.”

Beaudoin most enjoyed the ability to fall into a meditative state without confronting racing thoughts in her head — all while being in complete control of her mind and body.

“My conscious brain shuts off, and I tap into my subconscious and true self,” she says. “It is the most calm and relaxed I’ve ever felt.”

Carolyn's promise is to provide a safe and judgment-free option to help clients make substantial improvements to their thoughts and choices. So what are you waiting for? Call today and be on your way to the peace and happiness that you desire to experience in life.
