"Bread is just bread, right? But the impact we can have goes far beyond that," says Josh Allen, founder of Companion Baking. "Bob Dierberg reached out to me in 1995 and gave us an opportunity to expand the business. We tripled our business overnight, but he also gave us a lot of credibility. We've never forgotten that generosity."
"More than anything, we want to pay that forward," Josh explains. "To me, quality means something made with intention. People use the term artisan; they use craft. We want to be intentional about what we're doing."
Companion Bread is community-centric. "Our community is really important to all of us. We became a 1% for the Planet company, which has been hugely impactful on our ability to help the environment and the community. We work with the St. Louis Area Food Bank and Operation Food Search," says Josh. "The impact we can have is far greater than just baking bread."
