Enriching Lives

Kris Patmos and Kimberly Akers Help Seniors Through Amada Senior Care

"Who's going to take care of dad after surgery when I can't be there?"

"How does long-term care insurance work?"

"What are our options for help?"

"How can we keep fun alive in mom's life?"

As the daughters of aging parents, Kris Patmos and Kimberly Akers know how overwhelming taking care of an aging parent can be. They also understand the desire to keep joy alive for aging parents as they transition through different, often uncomfortable phases.

After realizing there was far more help available than what's discussed in routine conversation, Patmos and Akers decided to join forces and open Amada Senior Care in Chandler.

Within two years, they expanded their service area to include Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and SanTan Valley.

Friends for over 20 years, Patmos and Akers believe that an increase in age doesn't have to mean a decrease in quality of life—especially with the help of caregivers.

"Aging is a beautiful thing, but in our society, we often view it terribly, writing off our seniors instead of helping them live life to their version of the fullest," Patmos says.

The pair’s mission is to “enrich lives," a phrase proudly displayed throughout their office, as well as found in the spirit of their entire team.

"We believe in enriching the lives of our clients by delivering more possibilities for our aging clients. It's about recognizing what they need, what they would like to be able to do, what's physically possible for them at the moment, and coming up with solutions that keep them safe while simultaneously helping them get more joy out of life."

Amada Senior Care caregivers assist with bathing, dressing, toileting, walking assistance, errands and shopping, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and most non-medical assistance.

An entire team of people supports the families that choose Amada Senior Care. Every family has access to their dedicated scheduler to help coordinate when care is needed, a Care Coordinator to answer any questions, on-call staff for questions that don't come during office hours, long-term care insurance experts that help navigate funding options, and caregivers who love what they do.

"When I finally brought in outside help to support me in taking care of my parents, I got to be a daughter again. That was the best gift. To just enjoy time with my parents as their daughter again and not as the primary caregiver. That's probably my favorite thing to see for the families we work with—the gift of being able to be present with their parents again as a son or daughter," says Akers.

Besides offering solutions for parents to stay safely at home, Amada Senior Care is a Long-Term Care Insurance advocate.

Patmos and Akers are passionate about being a resource in the community for people who need help navigating senior care but may not be sure where to start. Amada offers no-cost Care Consultations with Senior Care Advisors that discuss care solutions, options to pay for care, home safety assessments, and private Long-Term Care Insurance analysis.
