Every Book Has Its Reader

Allen Public Library Has Something for Everyone this Summer

“A welcoming place to inspire the mind.”

Allen Public Library’s vision statement says it all. If you have kids, you know that a visit to APL is often a necessary must each week, whether for a study session in a private room or to chill out with a goodie from Food for Thought Cafe. For adults, APL is a haven too. A book club or a community event are only a few of the myriad offerings of this powerhouse library.

Jeff Timbs, Director of the Allen Public Library, has been serving the public for 27 years now. He joined APL in 2008 and has seen the library change locations five times! He has also witnessed its tremendous growth. “Just for this summer, we have 115 programs offered, ranging from story times to a blues band. Everything is free.” In 2016, Allen voters approved the sale of 16 million dollars of General Obligation Bonds to fund the expansion and renovation of the existing library. Construction is slated to begin this fall and go on for approximately two years. Timbs notes, “With the extra space for programming, we can serve better than we already do."
