Futures Academy is an accredited, private school serving 6-12 grade students who learn better outside the traditional, large classroom model. For many students, the large classroom model doesn’t fit how they learn best for a variety of reasons. Some students learn faster or slower, some like to ask more questions or prefer a quieter classroom, others learn better in a more welcoming social environment, and there are those who appreciate learning on alternative, flexible schedules. For all of these students, we created Futures Academy.
We are over 30 years strong. Parents continue to turn to Futures Academy to find academic and personal success for their children because of our one-to-one teaching model along with small group classes works. Our classrooms are based on the art and science of one-to-one instruction. The one student-one teacher classroom is the most flexible and customized program available to students. Students are able to learn without distractions while mastering the skills and information presented in the course.
Our school sets itself apart with its proven learning philosophy, EMPOWER, which imparts not only transformative academics but also the science of learning, the science of happiness, and 21st-century skills. The focus at Futures Academy is not only on academics but on the whole student. We teach optimism, grit, and growth mindset alongside core academics. Futures Academy teachers are mentors who make a positive impact by providing customized support based on each student’s unique talents, challenges, and interests. Students work with their teachers to set learning expectations and personalized goals to achieve content mastery which sets the foundation for learning given each subject builds upon the next. Most importantly, our teachers adjust the pacing of instruction to ensure students master the material before moving forward—so there is no falling behind.
Futures Academy helps students discover not only how they learn best but also how to adopt the habits proven to develop a growth mindset and to actually improve happiness. We teach our students the researched-based principles of how learning works so they can improve their study habits, manage stress, overcome obstacles, approach homework successfully, and meet deadlines. We also provide a variety of workshops and opportunities for students to develop the habits proven to increase happiness. Our goal is for each student to learn to work independently and to adopt the behaviors and actions that are proven to lead to happiness.
Our middle and high school students are regular kids who are each remarkable and talented in their own way. Each student brings their personalities and perspectives to our community to make it diverse, fun, interesting, and multi-faceted. Our campus culture is welcoming and our students and staff make sure everyone is known and belongs. When not in a class, Futures students have ample opportunities to connect across our micro-community through guided study homework support, exciting clubs, field trips, and social activities.
